Credible sources have hinted that Persona 6 will see a multi-platform release, which will include the Xbox and the Nintendo Switch 2.

Though gamers seem to be perpetually starved for the next big JRPG hit, Atlus has been playing it coy, keeping its cards tightly against its chest. This hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from churning out all kinds of whispers about Persona 6, or at least giving us something juicy to talk about until the next big announcement drops.

Until recently, Persona has been historically released on PlayStation, but rumor has it that Persona 6 will be breaking free from its Sony exclusivity, with credible sources pointing towards a multi-platform release. This all began when industry insider Nate the Hate revealed on DirectXbox #13 that Persona 6 is coming to Xbox.

“From the information I’ve heard, it does seem as though Persona 6 will be coming to the Xbox, so fans have something to look forward to. I’m not 100% sure if it’s, like, day-and-date with the PlayStation version, but considering the way the Persona games have been day-and-date with the multiplatform releases at this point, it may be a safe assumption to make that Persona 6 will be day-and-date on Xbox and PlayStation. It would be a really big deal if Microsoft was able to secure that on Game Pass, but I’d imagine that would take a lot to do.”

Subsequently, reliable leaker Midori went ahead to confirm the authenticity of this rumor on Twitter, adding, “It is correct information. And multiple platforms too.” When user @NSuperGamerGuy asked if the upcoming Persona title would also land on the next-gen Nintendo Switch, Midori replied in the affirmative.

Given Midori’s reputation as a credible leaker, it’s fair to assume that these rumors are closer to the truth. There was no word on whether a multi-platform release would include a PC version of the game, but the implication here is that Persona 6 could potentially make its debut on Steam as well.

Atlus has been characteristically tight-lipped about this, officially revealing nothing more about Persona 6 beyond its existence. Fans have been left to stitch together information from job postings, cryptic tweets, and the occasional slip-up in interviews. Speculation about the game’s features, such as whether it will boast a female protagonist or when it will finally launch, remains nothing more.

The series, known for its intricate storytelling, deep character development, and the ability to consume every free moment of your life, has traditionally been a major PlayStation draw. However, Microsoft has been very vocal about its intent to expand its horizons in the Japanese market and get a stronger foothold in a region largely dominated by PlayStation and Nintendo.

Much like Atlus, Nintendo has also remained mum about the development of the Nintendo Switch successor, the Switch 2. Several sources have recently cited that the much-awaited console, which was originally expected to be released this year, has been delayed to 2025. If this is indeed true, it would mean Persona 6 will likely launch next year, or at least get an official announcement and reveal.

The last mainline entry in the franchise, Persona 5, was released in 2016. Since then, fans have had to contend with remakes and spin-off titles like Persona 5 Tactica and Persona 3 Reload. Ultimately, the true aspiration for most fans is to play Persona 6, and from the looks of it, it may be available to a much bigger audience than ever before.

Hopefully, this will help SEGA realize its ambitious sales goal for Persona 6.
