Old starters to return in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet's Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC promises to be a dynamic blend of the old and new.

Do not underestimate the power of nostalgia, especially in a game like Pokémon.

In a world where pocket monsters is reigning supreme, fans of the Pokémon series were delivered news that sent waves throughout the community.

If you’ve been following the trail of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s upcoming two-part expansion, The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, brace yourself for a nostalgia trip of epic proportions.

At the grand finale of the 2023 Pokémon World Championships in Yokohama, Japan, eager enthusiasts were presented with a tantalizing trailer, revealing the grand return of many iconic starter Pokémon. No, it wasn’t a mirage at all – our beloved Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and a slew of other familiar faces are indeed making their triumphant return in the forthcoming downloadable content.

The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero is a monumental expansion split into two compelling chapters: The Teal Mask, set to land next month, and The Indigo Disk, which promises a wintery release. And while the first chapter has captured our imaginations, it’s The Indigo Disk that has fervent fans on the edge of their seats.

Imagine an underwater eco-dome by the name of Blueberry Academy, where all previous region starters roam free. Yes, Incineroar is back to set the competitive meta ablaze once again, along with other heavyweight champions previously missing from Gen IX. Whether you’re gearing up for the competitive scene or simply yearn to see the cherished starters once more, this DLC promises an unforgettable reunion.

Here’s a lineup of the returning starters and their evolutionary lineages that will soon roam the rich terrains of Paldea:

  • Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, Venusaur
  • Squirtle, Wartortle, Blastoise
  • Chikorita, Bayleef, Meganium
  • Totodile, Croconaw, Feraligatr
  • Treeko, Grovyle, Sceptile
  • Mudkip, Marshtomp, Swampert
  • Torchic, Combusken, Blaziken
  • Turtwig, Grotle, Torterra
  • Chimchar, Monferno, Infernape
  • Piplup, Primplup, Empoleon
  • Snivy, Servine, Serperior
  • Tepig, Pignite, Emboar
  • Litten, Torracat, Incineroar
  • Popplio, Brionne, Primarina

While Charizard and some iconic starters from Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Gen VI, and Gen VIII have already graced the latest entries in the series through special events and Pokémon HOME transfers, the resurgence of these classics adds an exhilarating dimension to the game.

It’s crazy to think that the Pokémon franchise has continued to remain, not just relevant, but constantly popular for multiple decades.

But it’s not just about the starters; competitive battlers will rejoice to know that prime choices like Flygon, Duralodon, Chandelure, Bastiodon, Metagross, and Mamoswine are making their comeback in The Teal Mask.

Moreover, the developers at Game Freak didn’t stop there. They’ve also announced the introduction of a pair of new groundbreaking moves, Psychic Noise and Upper Hand. Psychic Noise is a game-changer – a special move designed to damage and temporarily disable the foe from recovering their lost hit points through any means. Upper Hand, on the other hand, will keep your opponents on their toes, striking first and causing a flinch if they’re gearing up for a priority move.

Finally, prepare to have your mind bent with the mesmerizing new forms of Raikou and Cobalion. Raikou’s electrifying “Raging Bolt” form combines Electric and Dragon, while Cobalion’s “Iron Crown” form – resembling a mechanical beast – is a fusion of Psychic and Steel.

With over 230 Pokémon making their return, this expansion isn’t just a journey – it’s a grand celebration of Pokémon’s legacy. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a newcomer, one thing is clear: the Paldean region is set to become even more spellbinding.

It wouldn’t surprise us if the DLCs help drive even more sales to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Speaking of Pokémon, The Pokémon Company recently addressed the concerns about the declining quality of mainline releases in recent years. While the company doesn’t intend to slow down, it does have plans in place to alleviate this growing problem.
