If you need a change of pace from constant holiday cheer, we have you covered. In December, fans of the Five Nights at Freddy’s series will get the chance to delve into a new virtual reality experience with the release of Help Wanted 2.

This game serves as a direct sequel to the 2019 installment of the subline, released on the PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive headsets. Unfortunately, the upcoming title won’t be quite so multiplatform, and will be available exclusively on the PlayStation VR2.

Help Wanted 2’s release date announcement came with a gameplay trailer, not that we haven’t established the standard FNaF gameplay loop by now. Played in first-person perspective with eerie sounds, flashing lights, and a suitably dark theme, the gameplay trailer promises a twisted experience that fans will undoubtedly love.

The trailer begins with an advertisement for a vacancy at Fazbear Entertainment. In what is best described as irony, it promises potential applicants of a great experience, allowing them to choose their preferred department—from customer service and technical support to game testing and safety and security.

These employees – that’s you! – can even try a bit of everything before deciding on what to do. Of course, true to Five Nights at Freddy’s fashion, the trailer hints at hostile animatronics posing a threat to players beyond aggressive marketing practices.

In a post published to the PlayStation blog, Executive Producer Ray McCaffrey shared that Help Wanted 2 differs from its predecessor and will introduce many new features. It will also have six new minigame categories, including one that allows fans to experience the 2016 release Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location in virtual reality.

McCaffrey emphasized the developers’ goal of making Help Wanted 2 enjoyable on every replay. To achieve this, the game offers players multiple options, spanning tasks like taking customer orders, performing maintenance work, and engaging in arts and crafts.

While it’s not quite a branching RPG, with different opportunities presented during each gameplay session, players will encounter diverse experiences. Hopefully this will ensure the game remains challenging and entertaining on each replay.

McCaffrey promised that the upcoming title will be scarier than previous Five Nights at Freddy’s games because of PSVR2’s advanced technology, because of course he would. Leveraging features like controller haptics and 3D audio, he promised the game will provide a more engaging and terrifying experience than ever before.

The Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise has a bright future ahead. Help Wanted 2 will arrive on the heels of the movie adaptation that debuted last month. Despite a simultaneous streaming release, the film grossed over $284 million at the box office making it one of the best-performing movies of the year and will probably get a sequel, although there is no official confirmation just yet.

Five Nights at Freddy’s fans will be able to terrify themselves with Help Wanted 2 starting on December 14. Happy holidays?
