MultiVersus Will Be Ready To Rumble In May

Team up with Batman, cast spells with Arya Stark and cause mayhem with Bugs Bunny when MultiVersus returns on May 28.

For the nth straight game, Wonder Woman has been one of the best-looking characters in a Warner Bros. title.
For the nth straight game, Wonder Woman has been one of the best-looking characters in a Warner Bros. title.

MultiVersus, the eccentric but surprisingly well-executed platform brawler that features a hodgepodge of characters from Warner Bros. properties, including DC Comics, Game of Thrones, and Looney Tunes, among others, is making its much-anticipated return.

After a hiatus since last June, during which the game was taken offline for an extensive makeover, Player First Games has announced a relaunch date of May 28. This hiatus has allowed the developer to rebuild MultiVersus in Unreal Engine 5 (it previously used the older Unreal Engine 4), promising an enhanced visual experience and improved game performance across platforms.

Taking MultiVersus offline despite its popularity was a calculated move. In addition to an engine change, Player First Games also used this time to improve its net code, ensuring consistent and accurate online play as well as add more content. But Multiversus wasn’t entirely unplayable. The offline modes were still accessible, including local matches and the training room.

Bringing with it the promise of improved netcode, enhanced visuals, and new characters and modes, MultiVersus is an integral part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s pipeline. The use of Unreal Engine 5, in particular, is expected to be a game-changer, making characters like Shaggy’s sandwiches look better than ever.

Despite the shift to a new engine, MultiVersus will remain cross-generational in May and should guarantee a massive turnout. Thankfully, it will have full cross-play and cross-progression support across the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.

While there’s reason to feel excited to play as Superman again, MultiVersus will likely be a microtransaction-heavy live service title. Warner Bros. remains heavily invested in the genre despite the failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
