After a long hiatus that left both virtual and real tennis fans rallying for a sequel through failed campaigns and petitions, 2K is finally serving up a fresh installment in the Top Spin series. Yes, that’s right – it’s time to dust off your PlayStation Move controller and get ready for Top Spin 2K25.

When it comes to sports games, tennis often gets the short end of the racket. While football and basketball titles have kept going with the annual releases of FIFA and NBA 2K, tennis fans have been left reminiscing about the days long gone when they could power up their Wii and battle with their friends at the Roland Garros.

This is why the announcement of TopSpin 2K25 has got tennis fans absolutely buzzing. Clearly not its first rodeo, 2K dropped the teaser trailer with impeccable timing to coincide with the Australian Open. There’s not much in it other than some pretty impressive graphics and a “coming soon” reveal that gives no hint on a release window.

Hangar 13, the studio behind Mafia 3 and Mafia: Definitive Edition, will take charge of development, marking this as its third title since the studio’s inception in 2014. The last time we saw a release in the Top Spin series was way back in 2011, in the form of Top Spin 4, which was developed by the now-merged 2K Czech.

Although details on when TopSpin 2K25 will make its debut are still scarce, if we assume that 2K will use the NBA 2K release format, we could anticipate a release sometime this year, possibly coinciding with Wimbledon 2024 in July.

2K has yet to reveal whether the upcoming title will feature a cover star like the NBA 2K titles, but if it does, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Serbian superstar Novak Djokovic receive the honor.
