Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the much-awaited sequel from Insomniac Games, is once again, poised to set a high bar not only with engaging gameplay but also in addressing the need for accessibility and player-centric choices in the gaming world. As the excitement builds to unparalleled levels in anticipation of the title’s release, fans are naturally wondering how well it will perform.
Unfortunately, in their excitement, gamers were quick to pounce on a leak perpetrated by a once-reliable leaker that’s pseudo-retired already.
Apparently, The Snitch, claimed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will have two graphics modes: Fidelity and Performance. For those striving for a visually immersive experience, Fidelity Mode offers gameplay at 30 frames per second at 4K. This is supposedly further enriched with ray tracing and added visual effects. Meanwhile, the Performance Mode emphasizes gameplay fluidity, featuring gameplay at 60 FPS, and an upscaled 4K resolution, albeit without all the embellishments of ray tracing and other effects. Notably, this decision of forgoing the usual 1080p in Performance Mode will set Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 apart from many titles, for better or for worse.
As exciting as this piece of news is, it isn’t true – Insomniac Games’ Spider-Sense didn’t fail to prevent a leak.
As pointed out by several users on Reddit, the information comes from an earlier report by Insider Gaming that talked about the new accessibility options for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Of course, even without someone pointing out the glaring error, a closer look at the false graphics modes for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 reveals its falsehood. The limited customization options, especially when compared to earlier PlayStation 5 exclusives like the Demon’s Souls Remake and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, imply that it was taken from a game that wasn’t made specifically for the PlayStation 5.
As one of Sony’s marquee first-party studios, Insomniac Games almost always delivers when it comes to performance and graphical fidelity.
At the very least, we can expect Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to launch with Performance Mode RT (a combination of Fidelity and Performance Modes with Ray Tracing Enabled) and possibly a 120Hz Display Mode, among others.
It remains to be seen when we’ll hear more about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 next ahead of its October 20 release. Without a demo, the next update is all up in the air.
The good news is that Sony has an established pattern of showcasing its upcoming exclusives close to their release. The most recent example, Final Fantasy 16, was prominently featured in a solo State of Play in April and was included in the disappointing lineup of titles at the May PlayStation Showcase.
So, even if the rumored PlayStation event doesn’t happen later this month, we’re bound to get more Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 news sooner rather than later.
In the meantime, you can try checking out if the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 themed accessories are still available in your area or if scalpers have beaten you to the punch.
