Is Valorant coming to consoles?

A new leak suggests that playtesting for the console version of the popular first-person shooter is coming soon.

Dataminers suggest that a playtest for consoles will be happening soon.

Valorant is probably the only popular free-to-play shooter that has been released exclusively on PC. However, it looks like a huge change is coming with a new leak suggesting that Riot Games is bringing the title to consoles soon.

Riot Games may be looking to expand Valorant’s reach as the studio is reportedly planning to playtest the title on consoles. A new job listing at the studio is looking for a candidate to fill the role of associate console playtest analyst for the popular FPS title.

To qualify for the role, candidates must have experience playing FPS titles on a console at a professional level. Applicants must also be currently ranked Immortal or higher on Valorant. It means that the candidate needs to be a huge gamer and very experienced in Valorant as Immortal is the second highest competitive rank that a player can achieve.

The role includes playing, planning, and evaluating playtests for Valorant. The job includes implementing feedback and changes to the popular FPS title. The position will also be in charge of optimizing Valorant gameplay and managing test plans.

Dataminers have leaked that the playtests will be happening soon outside the studio. Valorant will reportedly be coming to every major last and current-gen console except for the Nintendo Switch.

This is not the first time that Riot Games is hiring a person to work on the console version of Valorant. There are four other open roles at the studio specifically for the console port. The studio may be far along in the development of the console version of the game given that it looks to hire a professional for playtesting.

Bringing in a competitive player suggests the studio is at balancing and improving the gameplay experience for consoles to be at par with the PC version of the game. Many of the popular FPS titles enable crossplay and Valorant may follow that trend as well.

Crossplay between PC and consoles requires a lot of gameplay balancing especially for aim assist.

So far, Riot hasn’t officially announced a console version of Valorant. As a competitive shooter, it takes plenty of gameplay balancing to account for the difficulty of playing on a console controller. Many popular titles have implemented some form of aim assist for consoles but those sometimes do not work as intended. It’s possible Riot will disable crossplay between PC and consoles to maintain its competitive balance.

Hopefully, we will get more updates from the studio about a console port for Valorant. We will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
