Asobo Studio is celebrating a significant achievement with A Plague Tale: Requiem, surpassing three million units sold within its first year. The studio is now teasing that it is working on a new game in the heartwarming series about horrible disease and flesh eating rat swarms.

Focus Entertainment announced that it has renewed its partnership with Asobo, which has proven quite successful thus far. The publisher also dropped hints that it is already working on a new game and thanked fans for supporting Requiem.

A heartfelt thank you to the 3 million players who embarked on the haunting journey of A Plague Tale: Requiem! Your support and passion mean everything to us,” the publisher tweeted. “Seizing this moment, we’re delighted to reveal our renewed collaboration with Asobo Studio for another exciting project!”

Neither Focus Entertainment nor Asobo Studio revealed what the “exciting project” might be. However, it isn’t much of a stretch to suggest that the studio is working on a third Plague Tale game. Asobo Studio has primarily collaborated with Focus Entertainment on the Plague Tale franchise. The studio previously worked with Microsoft on Flight Simulator and Ubisoft on The Crew 2.

The studio also has several job listings referencing the Plague Tale series. There are currently four positions open for the “Plague Team” including a senior game designer position. The job listings strongly suggest that the studio is gearing up for a new installment.

A Plague Tale: Requiem director Kevin Choteau also spoke with PlayStation about the possibility of a new entry in the series. During the interview, Choteau said that the future of the franchise will be highly dependent on the reception of Requiem – so knowing what we know, that’s a good sign.

Focus Entertainment and Asobo Studio has collaborated only on the Plague Tale series, strongly suggesting that a third game may be in the works.

“I think, for now, it’s the end,” Choteau said. “But the door is never closed, and we’ll see the player reception. We want to see their reaction before deciding anything. They are driving our production, and if they don’t like what we’ve done, we need to do something else.”

With the latest installment’s success, having sold over three million copies, the prospect of a third game in the A Plague Tale series appears promising. Asobo Studio has the opportunity to build on the formula that contributed to the success of the first two games and capitalize on the series’ popularity.
