An in-person QuakeCon is coming back for 2023

One of the biggest and most iconic LAN parties in the world is coming back later this year but with certain changes.

We're pretty sure Quake fans would "settle" for another RTX remaster of an older Quake game.

Get your rigs ready, folks! QuakeCon 2023 will be an in-person event later this year.

Unfortunately, while this is a welcome development, the iconic LAN party will come with one key change. Unlike in the past, QuakeCon 2023 will require attendees to pre-register and buy tickets before the event.

In previous iterations, attendees only needed to purchase a ticket if they wanted to join the “BYOC” (which stands for Bring Your Own Computer) LAN party. Otherwise, it was free admission. This year, everyone has to buy a BYOC ticket. In addition to this, QuakeCon 2023 will not have an exhibit hall. But, Bethesda wants fans to know that it will make the tickets worth it, with several other activities planned outside of the BYOC.

For example, the QuakeCon Finals Party, the finale of the Quake World Champions, as well as the Tabletop Village, are all going to be a part of QuakeCon 2023.

According to the official webpage, QuakeCon 2023 will take place on August 10-13 in Grapevine, Texas, with tickets starting at $75 and going up for as much as $400.

Unlike E3, which was canceled for most of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bethesda still held QuakeCon every year albeit making it exclusively online. Instead of the BYOC, Bethesda hosted digital presentations and panels to entertain audiences. It looks like QuakeCon 2023 will be a mix of both with a “full slate of programming” planned as well.

We’re just glad that QuakeCon 2023 isn’t canceled.

QuakeCon is one of the most iconic events in gaming, so it’s nice to know that Bethesda hasn’t given up on it just yet. It’s disappointing to hear that QuakeCon 2023 will focus on the BYOC LAN party, but you can’t blame Bethesda for testing the waters first. Three years without a physical event is a long time, so Bethesda might want to keep issues to a minimum. We do hope that QuakeCon 2023 is a success so that QuakeCon 2024 can be more like a “better” version of the older events.

As for what could be announced at QuakeCon 2023, don’t forget that Starfield will launch on September 6. We’re expecting Bethesda Game Studios’ first new IP to have a presence at QuakeCon 2023 after it gets its own showcase in June.
