Cheat codes sometimes get a bad rep in the gaming community. Associated with shortcuts to progression when games get too hard, or at worst, third-part hack usage in multiplayer games to get an unfair advantage over other players, cheats are usually referred to in negative contexts. However, in Grand Theft Auto 5, Rockstar Games’ defiantly successful and massively popular entry in the legendary GTA franchise, GTA 5 cheats are very different.
Sure, you still have your typical crop of “crutch” cheats that can help you out in a bind or give you certain unrealistic advantages. However, many of the included cheats are gags, or interesting and fun abilities and gameplay mechanics that are too far out or unrealistic to gel with the main GTA 5 experience in any other context, but that add a huge amount of gameplay value nonetheless.
One thing GTA 5 cheats do not offer is a quick way to riches – the game lacks a ‘money cheat’, which is due to the link between the single player stock market and GTA Online’s economy that was present in the past. That said, you’re not going to be super concerned about money when your punches and ammo rounds explode on impact, you’re invincible, and also have instant access to all the weapons available in the game as well as many of the vehicles, right?
We have all the GTA 5 cheats and codes for PlayStation consoles (PS5, PS4 and PS3), Xbox consoles (Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Xbox 360), and PC below. This guide includes the relevant cheat code button combinations and also the cell phone cheat numbers – both methods have the same list of cheats, it’s just the method of activating them that is different.
It’s important to note, before jumping in, that activating any cheat will disable achievements and trophies, so it’s best to save your game before using any GTA 5 cheats, giving you a safe place to load back to. You can also deactivate any cheat by entering the same code a second time, when applicable – cheats that heal you, give weapons and ammo, or spawn vehicles won’t “undo” their effects like this.
On consoles, you activate cheats simply by pressing the button combinations while playing, without pausing the game. Your character will be reacting to your input here, but you can just think of that as a small celebratory dance before the fun begins. On PC, you need to open up the in-game developer console with the tilde (~) key and type your cheats in there to activate them.
If you are using the phone number activation method, you need to pull up the in-game cell phone interface, dial your chosen cheat code’s ‘phone number’ and call it for the cheat effect to activate. This cellphone approach only works on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Curiously, there are a few cheats that are ‘exclusive’ to the cell phone method on consoles and we have those listed too.

Raise Wanted Level Sure, most things you can do in GTA 5 will raise your wanted level, but this is a great cheat for whenever you want to crank it up as quickly as possible for maximum police chase mayhem. Just make sure to remember how tough GTA 5 cops are. This cheat adds one star, and can be entered repeatedly to add stars. |

Lower Wanted Level The counter-cheat to the one above, this will get the cops off your heels if you’ve been overly mischievous and can’t take the heat from the terminators employed by the LSPD. This cheat removes one star, and can be entered repeated to remove multiple stars. |

Drunk Mode If you don’t have enough virtual booze on hand, this cheat will immediately activate the game’s drunk effects, making the screen all hazy and your character unable to walk straight. Possibly the worst party trick of all time. |

Fast Run This won’t quite put on yon par with The Flash, but you’ll still reach superhuman speeds compared to the rest of Los Santos’ pedestrians. Vehicles are a great way to reach your destination quickly, but sometimes a “brisk” walk is what you need. |

Fast Swim If you ever wanted to see an aging alcoholic like Michael outswim Olympic athletes, this is the cheat for you. Zip around the oceans and lakes or chase down boats while pretending that you’re the shark from Jaws. |

Recharge Special Ability Recharge ability: This cheat instantly fills up your current character’s special ability meter, allowing you to activate Franklin’s Driving Focus (slow down time when driving), Michael’s Bullet Time (slow down time when on foot/shooting) or Trevor’s Red Mist (decreases incoming damage while increasing damage you cause). |

Skyfall No, this cheat won’t teleport your character into the James Bond movie. Oh, it will teleport you, but the destination is extremely high up in the air, right above where you were standing upon activation. Hopefully you have a parachute! |

Weapons / Guns This cheat immediately adds all weapons to your weapon wheel and tops up the ammunition you have for each. Our chef recommends accompanying it with Max Health and Armor before you decide to ape out in-game. |

Explosive Ammo Rounds Turns all your ammo into explosive ammo, with small booms accompanying every shot you give off. This increases the damage of every weapon somewhat, and GTA 5 is perfect for betting more destructive. |

Explosive Melee Attacks Pack a bigger punch and knock out enemies with a bang. Every swing will be accompanied by a little explosion that increases damage but doesn’t harm you, making this cheat a perfect match for some of the other super-power styled codes. |

Flaming Bullets Turns all your ammo into incendiary ammo, setting the stuff you shoot on fire. Nothing quite like burning to a crisp after being riddled with bullet holes, right? |

|
Slow Motion Aim This cheat slows down time for you to line up those perfect shots, and unlike most others, has three levels. By entering the cheat multiple times you’ll cycle between three levels of Bullet time, with the fourth activation turning it off. |

World Effects |
|
|
Change Weather Activating this cheat will cycle through the game’s weather presets, meaning that each time you activate the cheat the next weather preset will manifest. Keep entering until you find the desired one. |

Moon Gravity Lowers world gravity, affecting every dynamic object in the game, and causing vehicles and characters to be much less attached to the surface of the earth than usual. A great cheat to use in combination with some other wackier ones. |

Slippery Cars Ever wanted to see the chaos of all cars spontaneously losing traction? This cheat is perfect for causing mayhem on the highway, especially considering how crash-happy GTA 5 NPCs are by default. |
