Netflix has released the trailer for its eagerly anticipated series, Obliterated.
With each new release, Netflix aims to capture the essence of diverse narratives and Obliterated is no exception. This newest series resonates with energy, intrigue, and promises to be a roller coaster of emotions and suspense.
The creators of the immensely popular Cobra Kai series, a sequel/spin-off to the Karate Kid movies, namely Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald, are the brilliant minds behind Obliterated. Their earlier success adds weight to the expectations of this new series. Spearheading the series are Nick Zano and SHelley Hennig, celebrated for their roles in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Teen Wolf, respectively. The supporting cast features an impressive ensemble: C. Thomas Howell, Kimi Rutledge, Paola Lazaro, Terrence Terrell, Alyson Gorske, and Eugene Kim. The announced structure includes eight episodes, each approximately 60 minutes in duration, and the full series will be available to the audience on November 30.
The narrative is uniquely intriguing. Set in the ever-lively city of Las Vegas, the story follows an elite bomb squad. This team, after successfully defusing what they believed was a menacing threat, immediately celebrate their success. But, it didn’t take long for things to take start taking a turn for the worse. The subsequent day reveals a twist: the bomb they neutralized was a decoy. The genuine threat, a nuclear device, is still active and poses a looming danger to the city.
What adds layers of complexity to this high-stakes mission is their impaired, hungover state owing to last night’s party.
With a premise that’s reminiscent of the suspense-filled series 24, combined with the comedic elements characteristic of The Hangover, Obliterated presents an interesting juxtaposition of tension, humor, and unexpected challenges. Even if the squad is at the peak of their profession, the aftermath of their premature celebration – ranging from blurred vision, reduced coordination, to an overwhelming sense of hunger and thirst – makes their mission all the more challenging. The complexity of managing professional expertise with personal impairments forms the crux of the narrative.
Furthermore, the sheer versatility of emotions depicted in the series is commendable. From moments of sheer joy and determination to instances of vulnerability, the actors have displayed an impressive range, catering to a vast spectrum of emotions. Jon Hurwitz, in his discussions, has highlighted the crucial role of this emotional diversity, emphasizing its vital role in shaping the series’ overall appeal and relatability.
This series is not just another addition to Netflix’s repertoire. Obliterated promises a unique experience, largely due to its unparalleled if impeccable execution. Each facet of the series, from casting, storyline development, to the nuances in character arcs, has been crafted with precision and finesse. The compelling scenario of top-tier professionals navigating a mission-critical situation, juxtaposed with personal challenges and impairments, guarantees consistent engagement and intrigue from viewers.
In light of the success of Cobra Kai, expectations from Obliterated are towering. Given the caliber of its creators, the stellar ensemble cast, and the engaging storyline, there’s little doubt that it will resonate deeply with its global audience.
As for Cobra Kai, the martial arts series will end with its sixth season.
