You know, for a franchise that’s often made fun of because people who die don’t stay dead for long, its decision to unalive a certain fan-favorite feature is a bummer.
According to @ShonenGames on X, the upcoming revival of the fan-favorite fighting game franchise, Dragon Ball Sparking: Zero, will not have a split-screen mode.
The same source, who’s reportedly the game’s producer, Jun Furutani, explains that it’s having trouble adapting split-screen on Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5. While the team are trying to find a solution, fans shouldn’t get their hopes up.
If true here’s what’s being said about Sparking Zero’s Split Screen, Characters, Story mode and more:
The team is open to criticism and consists of enthusiasts, with Jun Furutani himself being a big fan.
The local split-screen mode will ultimately not be available, not due to… https://t.co/uMkviTu4PF

On one hand, the report doesn’t say that the feature is NEVER coming to the game. On the other hand, why not?
Dragon Ball Sparking: Zero is banking on three things to sell well: the success of Dragon Ball Daima or the overall resurgence of the Dragon Ballfranchise, the passing away of its creator Akira Toriyama, and a pinch of nostalgia. Scratch that, it’s definitely betting big on nostalgia to help make it one of the best-selling Dragon Ball games to date.
Since most players buying Dragon Ball Sparking: Zero will want to reminisce the good ol’ days of playing the previous entries in local split screen co-op, it’s a waste not to have this feature at launch.
Of course, much can still change between now and the game’s release. Unless we’re in for another Halo Infinite situation, Spike Chunsoft Co., Ltd. and Bandai could have sorted things out already.
In the meantime, Dragon Ball fans can look forward to these dates: April 5 (Akiraya Toriyama’s birthday), May 9 (Goku Day), and November 20 (40th Anniversary).
Fingers crossed, we’ll find out more about Dragon Ball Sparking: Zero by then.
