Blizzard to reveal new Overwatch 2 map on October 1

Overwatch 2's public reception hasn't improved at all since it launched on Steam earlier this year.

Now that Season 6 is taking its final bow, it’s time we shift our scopes and rocket packs over to Season 7 of Overwatch 2.

As a new season charges up its ult and promises fans more thrilling adventures and explorations, Blizzard Entertainment wants to make sure players have something else to look forward to.

Enter, Samoa.

No, you read that right. The name of the new control map sounds like a dream tropical destination, complemented by a combination of vibrant palm trees and clear, shimmering waters. It’s the kind of place where you might find Reaper and Tracer sipping on a tropical drink – not jostling for control. Now, while Blizzard has played their cards close to their chest, we can’t help but wonder and speculate. Is this the home of the long-rumored hero Mauga?

Mauga means “mountain” in Samoan, and behold, there’s a majestic mountain in the background of the teaser image of Samoa. Could this be more than a mere coincidence, or are we simply letting our imaginations run wild amidst the sand and the sea?

Our imaginations aren’t the only ones running wild. The leaks and whispers floated around even before Blizzard had the chance to roll out the red carpet for Samoa. One particular streamer, our dear friend Bogur, seemingly logged into the wrong Overwatch 2 server and leaked the new season banner, thus giving us a sneak peek into the enigmatic Season 7.

This scenic addition is all set to make its official debut on October 1 during the Overwatch League Grand Finals, promising a close look at the battleground and its landscape. Exciting, right? This might even make us forget the lack of new Push maps. It’s been almost a year and we are still stuck rotating the same old three. We bet the fan base would be over the moon to see a new addition to that list.

Each new season represents a new opportunity for Blizzard to fix Overwatch 2.

Season 7 is teasing us with some skin-chilling themes – ghosts and goblins, a spooky specter for Hanzo and a Diablo-themed skin for Moira. The theme is quite fitting, considering its release around Halloween. Now, if only Blizzard would spill the beans on whether we get to see more characters joining the spooky parade.

Overwatch 2’s Season 6, the one we’re bidding adieu to, had its moments of brilliance with the introduction of PvE story missions and the new hero Illari, not to mention a new game mode called Flashpoint.

For the community, each reveal is like finding a piece of a puzzle. With every new season, new map, or hero, it offers a chance to dive deeper into the Overwatch universe. And of course, with the blend of leaks and official releases, it’s par for the course to engage in some wild speculations, drawing analogies, and imagining potential scenarios, isn’t it? The constant unveiling of content sparks discussions, bringing together the gaming community in anticipation and excitement.

Overwatch 2 is still the worst-rated game on Steam, by far.

Will we see Mauga swinging his might in Samoa? Are there more chilling heroes joining the Halloween-themed parade? Or will the game take us to more scenic or perhaps eerie destinations, intertwined with legends and myths? Only time will unfold the mysteries of Overwatch 2’s Season 7, until then let’s bask in the speculations, banter, and the beauty of the upcoming Samoa.

So, here’s to new adventures, uncovering mysteries, and savoring every bit of excitement Blizzard sprinkles our way in Season 7.

Overwatch 2 is currently one of the worst-rated games on Steam and it’s showing no signs of improvement. But, if we can learn something from Cyberpunk 2077, it’s that things can get better in time.
