2016’s The Accountant was a Ben Affleck-led action-thriller that grossed $155 million at the international box office against a $44 million budget. The film received mixed reviews and took a backseat to another one of Affleck’s films. Yet, despite being overshadowed by Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, a sequel was announced to be in development in 2017.

Fast forward to today and it appears that The Accountant 2 is finally coming to fruition.

When is The Accountant 2 going to premiere?

You could describe Ben Affleck’s role in The Accountant as “discount batman”.

Gavin O’Conner, the director of the 2016 film and the upcoming sequel, confirmed in a recent CinemaBlend ReelBlend podcast that Affleck is set to reprise his role as the mathematics genius who moonlights as a vigilante (sound familiar?).

His exact words were, “We literally just closed that deal. We’re doing The Accountant again.”

O’Connor and Affleck recently worked together on The Way Back, a film that was released in 2020. When asked about The Accountant sequel, O’Connor confirmed that the second film would revolve more around Jon Bernthal – ‘the Accountant’s brother. O’Connor then talks about a third installment, which he refers to as “Rain Man on steroids” and a “buddy picture” with a story that will center around the relationship between the two brothers.

On top of Bernthal and Affleck, The Accountant also featured a star-studded cast that also included the likes of Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, and Cynthia Addai-Robinson.

Jon Bernthal plays the role of Braxton in The Accountant, who serves as the film's secondary antagonist.

Interestingly, neither Affleck nor Bernthal have confirmed that they are coming back to do The Accountant sequel. However, given that the director has already confirmed it, it’s a sure thing at this point.

At the moment, fans can look forward to watching Affleck put on the cowl once again as Batman in the DCEU’s The Flash, which is set to premiere on November 4, 2022. Meanwhile, Bernthal is set to appear alongside an ensemble cast in Netflix’s movie adaptation of 2009’s British miniseries, Unforgiven, The Unforgivable.
