The ‘Chizhang Wall’ puzzle is an unmarked Genshin Impact side-quest that encourages players to do some critical thinking and read in order to get through this quest. You won’t get any quest markers for this and need to pay attention and explore the areas based on the text. But we will save you the trouble of going through all that and get straight to solving the puzzle and how to do it.
Pre-requirements
You must complete the ‘Chenyu’s Blessings of Sunken Jade‘ world quest and its sequel, ‘The Cloud Padded Path to The Chiwang Repose,’ to unlock a secret area called Carp’s Rest. This is where you will find the second half of an important piece needed to complete this hidden quest.
The Diffuser
To start this side quest, it is best to first go to the Diffuser in the middle of the Chizhang Wall. You will notice a yellow glow by the Diffuser that you can interact with. Do so and the Diffuser will read the inscribed text that tells you about two locations containing the Fragrant Woods that you can insert inside the Diffuser. One is located to the West of the Diffuser, and the other is located to the East.
Fragrant Wood “Chizhang”
To get each Fragrant Wood, you must go to the designated location and solve a puzzle. Let us go to the West puzzle and get Fragrant Wood ‘Chizhang.’ The puzzle isn’t exactly directly to your west but more so in the southwest direction. When you get to the location, you will find some Ruin Cruisers and a Ruin Hunter.
First, take out the Ruin Cruisers, and then we can take out the Ruin Hunter. The Ruin Hunter won’t automatically be aggressive towards you. You first need to interact with it twice to ‘kick it!’ and get him aggroed towards you. Eliminate the Ruin Hunter, and the metal grate it was sitting over will open up. You will find a common chest and one of the broken pillars you can pick up using your adeptal energy.
The way this puzzle works is that you must place the broken pillars next to the identical pillars to complete the symmetrical look of the decor. So, when you pick up the broken small pillar, you need to place it near the top of the stairs where the other broken pillar is on the right side.
To get to the next pillar, you must go down the stairs and turn right. You will notice a time trial challenge here. Ignore the time trial challenge and go to the ledge on the left side of the locked gate. Walk forward and enter the locked room through a broken wall to your right. Once inside, pick up the pillar using your adeptal energy, and the locked door will open. This pillar will go at the base level.
Finally, the last pillar is directly behind you. Pick it up and then place it on the illuminated platform at the top of the staircase where the Diffuser is. This will solve the puzzle and allow you to pick up the Fragrant Wood from the Diffuser.
Fragrant Wood “Huangcong”
To get this Fragrant Wood, you must make your way to the puzzle location in the west direction, right by the teleport waypoint. There will be some treasure hoarders at the location. Eliminate them to make it easier to solve the puzzle. First, pick up the broken pillar directly next to the miner treasure hoarder and place it on the illuminated platform right next to it. This will open up the locked gate below with another broken pillar, which you can take out.
Once you’ve picked up the second broken pillar, place it on the platform directly behind you. Also, pick up the previously placed smaller pillar and place it on the platform at the top of the staircase (same staircase as the big pillar you just placed, not the main Diffuser staircase) behind you.
Placing both the pillars will open another locked door at the top of this staircase. You will find some explosive flowers inside the room and another broken pillar behind a boulder. This is not a pillar; and it is more of an archway. Walk over the first flower right at the entrance of this room and walk back outside. It will activate the explosive flower, which will explode and cause other flowers inside the room to explode and break the boulder, freeing the broken archway inside.
Now, you can place all these by the main staircase to get the Fragrant Wood from the Diffuser. First, pick up the archway and place it at the bottom-most illuminated platform. Next, pick up a slightly taller pillar and place it on the illuminated platform in the middle.
Lastly, pick up the smallest broken pillar and place it on the illuminated platform next to the Diffuser at the top of the staircase. Once done, you can pick up Fragrant Wood “Huangcong.”
Activating Main Diffuser
Return to the main Diffuser in the middle of the Chizhang Wall and offer both incenses to the Diffuser, which will unlock the locked gate ahead of you. Make your way inside the room, and a powerful Ruin Grader will activate and start attacking you.
As you reduce this Ruin Grader’s health to around half his max HP, the main Jade in the room will start to shine. And you can use your adeptal energy to interact with it and defeat the Ruin Grader. When you use the Jade, the Ruin Grader will be defeated, and you will get a luxurious chest and two common chests.
Jade Fragments
Now that the Ancient Jade Pendant is active, you must secure it using the Jade Fragments.
Jade Fragment (Left)
You can get the left half of the piece from the ‘Huangcong Grounds.’ Teleport to the teleport waypoint located left west of the Chizhang Wall Statue of the Seven and run across the water to the tower ahead of you. The jade fragment is on the floor.
Jade Fragment (Right)
To get the second piece, teleport to the Carp’s Rest and go in the northwest direction. You will find the fragment at the base of the waterfall.
The Mural Veil
Once you’ve acquired both fragments, return to the Jade Pendant at the Chizhang Wall and offer the fragments to the Jade. They will be secured around it and activate a portal. After the cutscene, use your adeptal energy to teleport using the Jade Pendant. You will arrive at a secret location with the last moss-covered Mural.
You find three Murals during the ‘Chenyu’s Blessings of Sunken Jade’ world quest, and this one is the last in the series. Use your adeptal energy to clear the moss, and you will get an achievement called ‘The Mural Veil.’ You will also get an achievement called ‘The Ruined Tale.’
You can use the Carp teleporter to “fly” out and in the open to get out of this location. In case you missed this location, it is right behind the Diffuser puzzle in the east that you solved to get the Fragrant Wood “Huangcong.”
