Fans of The Truman Show will be excited by American Arcadia, a game in the same vein. Originally announced in April 2022, American Arcadia has since seen many teasers released for it. One year and a half after its unveiling, we finally have a release date and it is November 15 this year.
The title’s developer, Out of the Blue, revealed this information in a new trailer just a few days ago (going against their name in the process). The footage provides a glimpse of what to expect from the title. It opens with the protagonist, Trevor Hills, screaming out to Angela Solano, his helper and co-protagonist.
American Arcadia’s description provides more information on what the game is about. It reads, “Welcome to Arcadia, a retro-futuristic ’70s metropolis promising a life of luxury and comfort. But what its citizens don’t realize is they’re starring in American Arcadia, the world’s most popular reality TV show that’s broadcast live, 24/7. As countless viewers watch at home, a drop in your popularity can be a death sentence. Which is bad news if you’re an ordinary man with a mundane life. A man like Trevor Hills.”
It further states, “Trevor has only one hope to survive: Angela Solano, an American Arcadia stage technician determined to help him escape. With Angela’s technical prowess and wits manipulating the world from the outside, Trevor just might make it out of Arcadia with his life.”
From the first look, American Arcadia will feature a narrative that action and espionage thriller fans will surely love. It appears to contain numerous twists, turns, and deceitful actions from various characters that are guaranteed to keep you glued to your seat as you try to navigate your way out of the dystopian world.
The game is similar to The Truman Show in many ways and promises to deliver as much fun and excitement to its fans as the film did. In the game, players have to alternate between Hills and Solano to overpower the corporation in charge of the horrid reality show.
Playing as Hills puts you in a 2.5D puzzle-platformer world with withdrawn camera angles. In this mode, you will do a lot of running around in the dystopian reality as you try to unveil its many secrets and escape its authorities. Playing as Solano, on the other hand, will see you working to hack Arcadia’s technology and invent ways to free Hills.
American Arcadia will be available exclusively on PC via Steam on November 15. There is a demo available if you want to experience the title before its full release.
