Don Mancini Confirms Chucky 8 Following TV Series Success

The iconic killer doll from the deepest bowels of hell is currently having an excellent time on streaming platforms and the small screen.

Whether it's a new Child's Play or Chucky film, fans of the slasher horror franchise are all in.
Whether it's a new Child's Play or Chucky film, fans of the slasher horror franchise are all in.

Just when you thought that Chucky would go back into the store shelves for a while to bide his time as he looks for his next platform to victimize, it appears that everybody’s favorite crazed murder doll already has his sights set on bigger game.

7 years after the series’ last chronologically valid entry, Cult of Chucky, the franchise’s creator, Don Mancini, has confirmed that a new entry is in development. Mancini has had a hand in every entry except for the 2019 reboot. Most recently, he was the director of Seed of Chucky (2004), Curse of Chucky (2013), and& Cult of Chucky (2017).

Chucky, a show featuring the namesake dollified serial killer, is one of the biggest and most unlikely success stories on streaming platforms in recent years. After debuting in time for Halloween in 2021, the show has since been renewed for a third season. It’s unclear if a fourth season is coming.

With only weeks to go before the Chucky returns on Syfy and the USA Network on April 10, Mancini got on the Scream Dream podcast where he revealed that he’s working on two new things: a new pilot and a new Chucky movie.

Unfortunately, we have no other information aside from Mancini’s confirmation, but it’s more than enough to excite fans of the Child’s Play franchise.

Interestingly, Mancini specifically referred to the next film as a Chucky movie and not Child’s Play. Nevertheless, we’re going with Chucky 8 for now. Technically, the next one is the eighth mainline installment in the series.

Child’s Play like Scream has enjoyed quite the resurgence. But, unlike Scream, which eventually found its way back to the big screen after floundering for years following the death of the franchise’s creator, Wes Craven, Child’s Play came back to life with the release of the aforementioned TV series.

With that said, it’ll be interesting to see how Mancini’s next Child’s Play film will do at the global box office where it will undoubtedly be compared to M3GAN, which is getting a sequel in 2025.
