News about Spider-Man 4 being in active development has been making the rounds online for some time now. However, there have been no details on what kind of arc Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will get, given how his story ended in the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

During a Q&A Discord session on The Cosmic Circus, insider Alex Perez took the time to address a question about Peter Parker’s future in Spider-Man 4. Looking ahead, Peter Parker’s trajectory is set to explore the essence of Spider-Man stripped of his personal ties.

Bereft of connections, Peter’s only choice is to embody the hero’s mantle entirely, a decision that Perez stated mirrors the somber path trodden by Robert Pattinson’s Batman in The Batman. Like Pattinson’s portrayal, Peter’s arc will depict the solitude and the burdens that come with the hero’s journey, a demonstration of the sacrifices made in the name of greater good.

If we take a look back at Peter’s journey from Captain America: Civil War to Spider-Man: No Way Home, it’s evident that Sony had a clear path charted out for Peter Parker’s evolution to Spider-Man. When he was introduced as a 15-year-old in Civil War, Holland’s Peter Parker was the epitome of youthful enthusiasm and naivety, eager to impress and find his place among the Avengers.

Critics and fans alike have voiced their opinions on Peter’s perceived immaturity, but isn’t that precisely what being a teenager is all about? The MCU didn’t shy away from portraying Peter’s struggles with the complexities of adolescence, identity, and responsibility while still learning to balance the weight of the world on his young shoulders.

For example, in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Peter had to grapple with his desire for greatness versus the realization of his significance in the smaller, more personal corners of his world. Then came Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, where Peter was thrust onto a cosmic battlefield, a far cry from the streets of Queens.

Here, his resilience and bravery were showcased in full, but equally so, audiences got to see his vulnerability, especially in a fight where the threat is much bigger than your average neighborhood punk.

Spider-Man: Far From Home revealed how the aftermath of the Endgame battle weighed heavily on Peter, as he yearned for normalcy amidst the huge expectation to step into Tony Stark’s shoes. Audiences can clearly see Peter’s internal conflict, illustrated by his struggle to forge his path while being overshadowed by the legacy of Iron Man.

However, this narrative doesn’t come to completion until No Way Home. With his identity exposed, he confronted the harsh reality that Peter Parker and Spider-Man could not coexist without endangering his loved ones. Much like Iron Man’s arc, this realization marked a pivotal moment in his story, prompting a profound sacrifice that would change his life forever.

Spider-Man 4 will likely address how Peter deals with this sacrifice, especially now that Aunt May is no longer around. It’s worth noting that Maguire and Garfield’s Spider-Men helped Peter not go down the path of revenge like they did.

Unfortunately, now that they’ve both returned to their respective timelines, Holland’s Parker will have to cope with the loss of his identity alone (or at least with the help of Happy Hogan).
