Sony’s Spider-Man Universe needs saving, even if it comes from a lethal protector.
As Madame Web unravels at the global box office, Sony’s cinematic universe, which is its own thing but also part of the MCU somehow, is cratering. 2022’s Morbius was just the start and the significant delay to Kraven the Hunter wasn’t a good sign.
With the Sydney Sweeney-led film failing to make a good impression, Sony is desperate for some positive momentum. Thankfully, the most recent update regarding Venom 3 might be exactly what the doctor ordered.

Juno Temple, a new addition to the Venom franchise, recently shared her excitement for the film’s completion during her appearance at the SAG-AFTRA Awards, as per Variety. The film, which is directed and co-written by Kelly Marcel, promises to continue the story of Eddie Brock and his symbiote counterpart, which ended on a cliffhanger.
Tom Hardy’s involvement goes beyond his role in front of the camera, as he has taken a hands-on approach to producing as the script’s co-writer. Hardy’s creative vision for the trilogy emphasizes continuity and the importance of each installment being crafted as if it could be the last. The previous films in the franchise, Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage, have enjoyed considerable box office success, setting high expectations for the third installment.
Venom 3 arrives amidst an industry recovering from last year’s strikes and production delays. Despite these hurdles, the creatives behind Venom 3 has worked diligently to bring the film to completion in time to save Sony’s Spider-Man universe.
With its predecessors’ financial and critical reception setting a high bar, Venom 3 might buy Sony more time to craft better and more compelling stories that resonate better. If it breaches the billion-dollar mark, it could also give Sony more leverage against Disney as it attempts to bring Spider-Man and Venom, among others, to the multi-billion-dollar cinematic universe.
We’ll find out if Venom 3 can exceed expectations when it premieres in theaters on November 8.
Speaking of lethal protectors, Venom is getting his own standalone title from Insomniac Games next year.
