Trailers for movies or TV shows? Nah – how about a trailer for an entire year’s streaming portfolio? Netflix is gearing up for a blockbuster year as it teases its 2024 lineup through a captivating trailer, offering a glimpse into the highly-anticipated releases in movies and TV shows.
Although Netflix has primarily been a haven for old and recently released movies and TV shows, the streaming giant also has a slew of successful original programming. Stranger Things, Wednesday, Squid Game, and The Crown are just a few – and it looks like 2024 has a packed schedule of original content to be added in its growing library.
The new Netflix trailer was posted on the official site and shared on social media such as X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. The teaser not only introduces Netflix’s new projects, but also shines a spotlight on returning fan favorites.

Aside from the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender, one of the most eagerly awaited highlights is the confirmation of Squid Game season 2, the follow-up to the groundbreaking first season, which became Netflix’s most-watched original show in 2021, accumulating a staggering 1.65 billion viewing hours within 28 days of its inaugural month.
While the sophomore season’s release date remains elusive, the footage in the trailer provides a sneak peek into the return of Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun (what’s with the hair, though?), building anticipation for another intense and thrilling installment of the survival drama.
Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire, which made its debut on Netflix in December as number 1 across the globe despite being a critical flop, is also set to continue its epic journey with the release of Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver in the spring of 2024.
Billed as an action-packed sequel, the film is poised to continue the plot of the popular yet ridiculed entrée, packing action and further realizing the… unique’ vision of director Zack Snyder. Snyder himself shared his anticipation for the second part of the soap opera sci-fi saga on his social media.

Netflix’s 2024 slate further boasts Jennifer Lopez’s return, following the success of her action thriller The Mother. Lopez will headline Atlas, a sci-fi thriller co-starring Sterling K. Brown. The trailer provides glimpses of Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry in action in The Union, a new high-octane movie. Benedict Cumberbatch takes the lead in Eric, a miniseries that continues Netflix’s tradition of featuring A-list talent in its original productions.
Adding to the star-studded lineup of Netflix originals is Cameron Diaz. Teaming up with Jamie Foxx, the Hollywood star who made her mark in movies such as ‘The Mask’, ‘There’s Something About Mary’, ‘Charlie’s Angels’, and more is making a triumphant return to acting after a decade-long hiatus in Seth Gordon’s Back In Action.
Another superstar from the 1980s and 1990s is revisiting his roots, as Eddie Murphy plays his iconic role in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. As Axel Foley, Murphy goes back to Beverly Hills and teams up with his old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) and a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt).

Speaking of a classic movie franchise from the 80s, the first look at Cobra Kai Season 6 offers a preview of the “dojo dramedy’s” final farewell. Continuing the legacy of the original Karate Kid movies, the Netflix spinoff expanded and deepened the story of Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) from bitter rivalry to friendly mentors of a new generation.
A significant addition to the Cobra Kai Season 6 cast is Dexter alum C.S. Lee, portraying the role of Master Kim Sun-Yung, a character only mentioned from the original Karate Kid movies. Despite successfully introducing new faces, bringing back franchise veterans and being a certified hit, it was announced in January 2023 that the upcoming sixth season of Cobra Kai would be the last.
Two other Netflix projects with a cult fan base are bidding goodbye with the final seasons of comic book-inspired series Sweet Tooth and The Umbrella Academy. For fans of political thrillers, the Netflix trailer reaffirms the return of The Diplomat for its second season, promising to maintain the suspense and intrigue that captivated audiences in its initial run.
The Netflix 2024 slate trailer also unveiled a sneak peek into the upcoming third season of Bridgerton, promising the shows’ fans the continuation of the enchanting romance between Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).
The teaser seems to confirm further exploration of Penelope’s journey to find love while maintaining her secret life as Lady Whistledown, away from the prying eyes of her family.
Other highly anticipated releases include Black Doves, Hit Man, and American Primeval. American Primeval deserves particular attention as it is touted as Netflix’s answer to the critically acclaimed Yellowstone which is rounding up its final season this year.
