Marvel fans have been waiting for information on the upcoming Fantastic Four movie since it was announced in D23 last year. While we have very little information about the film, we at least have an idea of when it will begin filming.
A new rumor from well-known insider Daniel Richtman suggests that the movie will begin filming in May. This should be very exciting news for fans of the superhero team. However, it will be a bit worrying that Marvel will only begin in late spring when the movie is scheduled for release in May 2025.
Considering the short turnaround from production to release, it is likely that Marvel will push the premiere to late 2025. Marvel has delayed the release of a majority of the upcoming projects, and it will be safe to assume that Fantastic Four will also be adjusted accordingly. As it stands, only Deadpool 3 will be released next year while Captain America: Brave New World will be pushed to 2025.

Marvel originally hoped to begin filming in January 2024 but production schedules have been heavily affected by the Hollywood actors’ and writers’ strikes. The strike has prevented Marvel from signing actors to the Fantastic Four until the conclusion of the strike last November. Casting and pre-production will take a few months and director Matt Shakman previously said that the production will commence in spring.
Speaking of casting, the Fantastic Four has been the subject of many casting rumors. Marvel has yet to officially announce a cast for the movie, but leaks suggest that Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach have signed on to play Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm. There have also been reports that Mads Mikkelsen has been tapped to play Doctor Doom while rumors hint at Antonio Banderas as Galactus and Anya Taylor-Joy as a female version of Silver Surfer.

With production targeted to begin next year, many fans expect Marvel to make an official casting announcement soon. We had hoped for the studio to make an announcement before the year ends, but it seems that Marvel is still preoccupied with the recent departure of Jonathan Majors from the role of Kang the Conqueror. Introducing the cast for Fantastic Four could have possibly taken some of the spotlight from the recent setbacks that the MCU has been facing.
Josh Friedman and Cameron Squires are penning the script for the film that will be directed by Shakman. Marvel boss Kevin Feige is onboard as the producer while Louis D’Esposito will serve as an executive.
The Fantastic Four is currently scheduled to premiere on May 2, 2025.
