Marvel has finally found a writer for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. With the film scheduled for May 2026, the studio has officially confirmed that it has signed a notable MCU writer to pen the screenplay for the upcoming movie.

According to a post by Deadline, Michael Waldron has reportedly signed on to work on the script for the first Avengers movie in the Multiverse Saga. Waldron is best known for being the creator of the Loki series on Disney+ and developing the screenplay for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the writer is noted for his work on the adult animated TV series Rick and Morty.

It was reported earlier this month that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania writer Jeff Loveness departed from The Kang Dynasty. There has been speculation that Marvel wants to move away from a villain-centric storyline for its upcoming MCU projects. The information was shared by MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios co-author Joanna Robinson on the House of R podcast.

The Kang Dynasty still does not have a director after Destin Daniel Cretton exited the project earlier this month. The director was tapped to direct the upcoming Avengers movie after the success of his MCU directorial debut with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Cretton reportedly stepped down to focus on other MCU projects including a sequel for Shang-Chi and a new Wonder Man TV show.

Waldron will have enough time to pen a script for The Kang Dynasty as the movie isn’t due until mid-2026. Marvel will also have enough time to search for a new director and begin the process of casting actors for the movie.

There have been previous rumors that Marvel is considering the return of the original Avengers team for either The Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars given the recent struggles of the franchise. There were reports that Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson were already on board for the movies. However, Chris Evans recently dunked the rumors that he is returning to the franchise, saying that no one has been in contact with him to reprise the role of Captain America.

We have high hopes for Waldron in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty after the success of Loki on Disney+. Both seasons of the MCU TV show were highly rated and very well received by fans. Doctor Strange 2 was also a commercial success but reception to the film was mixed. However, many of the criticisms of Multiverse of Madness were focused on director Sam Raimi rather than Waldron.

We hope Marvel bounces back with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty after the recent failures of Ant-Man 3, The Marvels, and Secret Invasion. The film is certainly something to keep an eye out for in the next few years. It’s believed that Sam Raimi is in the running to direct both Avengers films.
