Chris Evans is one of the actors often mentioned in MCU casting rumors. While many fans want Captain America back in the Avengers, the actor says that nobody has contacted him about making a return.
There are rumors about the return of the original Avengers to the MCU. According to a recent report by Variety, Marvel is considering bringing back Evan, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johannsson, Jeremy Renner, and Mark Ruffalo. Executives from the studio reportedly discussed ways to revive the struggling movie franchise after the lackluster performance of several movies and TV shows.
Marvel hasn’t made any official announcements about bringing back the OG team. However, if the studio plans to recall the Avengers, they may be featured in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. Only Hemsworth’s Thor and Ruffalo’s Hulk are active in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga.

Evans did address the rumors about his possible return as part of the Avengers. In a recent interview with The Wrap, the actor said that he hasn’t been in discussions about reprising the role of Steve Rogers aka Captain America.
“You know, I always see those reports too, and it’s news to me,” Evans said. “I think every couple months, someone says that they’re getting Downey, and Hemsworth, and Scarlet [Johansson], and everyone’s coming back!”
He adds, “No one’s spoken to me about it. And look, I would never say never, but I really — I’m very protective. It’s a very precious role to me, so it would have to be just right.”
Evans previously said that returning as Captain America still doesn’t feel right. The actor also said that he would like to preserve the ending of Avengers: Endgame. While he hasn’t ruled out anything, it may be a while before we see the actor return as Steve Rogers.

There is a small complication in the actor’s return to the MCU. At the end of Endgame, Rogers opts not to use the time machine to return to the present and stays in the past to spend time with Peggy. He then passes on the mantle (or is it more of the Shield?) of Captain America to Sam Wilson aka Falcon. It is assumed that Captain America is now too old to be a superhero or possibly died already.
This little conundrum can be solved by the Multiverse as Evans can appear as another variant of Steve Rogers. Marvel can simply have Doctor Strange open a portal to another part of the multiverse to summon Captain America. This plot element has already happened in Endgame where Thanos and Gamora returned after being seemingly killed off. So, a return for Iron Man, Black Widow, and Captain America isn’t really out of the question.
The real question is whether or not Marvel would like to gamble on it. The studio has already been having a hard time attracting audiences as it is and recruiting the original Avengers back may have some excitement in the short term but it may grow old quickly. For now, what we would like for Marvel to do is explore new characters and rebuild the franchise from the ground up rather than relying on older superheroes to reinvigorate the MCU.
