Vikings: Valhalla, the spinoff sequel to History’s Vikings, is finally coming to an end. The historical drama series about the concluding years of the Viking Age will air its third and final season on Netflix next year.

The show’s co-creator and executive producer Jeb Stuart confirmed the news in a statement. He said, “I am so grateful to have had three seasons to tell the stories of Leif, Harald and Freydis. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to show the evolution of how three of the most famous Vikings became the icons we know today and we have done just that.”

Stuart teased the new season and said they’ve taken the heroes to great heights. He went on to confirm what we all expected: that the show will end after its third season. When Netflix hired him to develop the show, alongside Vikings creator Michael Hirst, they placed an order for 24 episodes over three seasons.

He stated, “Of course with real historical figures, there are always more aspects of their lives that could be explored, but it made sense story-wise for our Leif, Freydis and Harald’s voyages to end with our third season. And we really cannot wait for the fans to see the conclusion of this chapter of history.”

Valhalla takes place more than one century after the events of the original Vikings show. The series tells the story of the Norse explorer Leif Erikson, his sister and companion Freydís Eiríksdóttir, and Prince Harald Sigurdsson. The second season ended with the crew arriving at Constantinople and we fully expect the third to kick off from there.

When Vikings debuted in 2013, it was well-received by critics and audiences alike. It was so popular that by the time it ended in 2020, after six seasons, Netflix was already working on the spinoff sequel that would be titled Vikings: Valhalla.

Valhalla has been a major draw for the streamer and the fact it will have a third season is a testament to that fact. The show hasn’t reached the same height as Vikings but it’s been a worthy successor. Even though it was always going to end after the third season, its fans will be disappointed to say goodbye.

Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 will make landfall on Netflix next year. There is no official debut date just yet but we expect the show to arrive in the early quarter of the year which was the case with the previous two seasons.
