It’s been some time since the last Spawn movie premiered. So, you can only imagine how fans, who have been eager to see a new movie based on Todd McFarlane’s comic book character, were pretty excited when Jason Blum announced a new Spawn movie. And it looks like we will finally be getting the movie, in around two years.

Jason Blum, CEO of Blumhouse Production, is pretty confident that his studio can complete the reboot in the next two years. In an interview with Comicbook.com, Blum said that he predicts that the movie will be coming out in 2025. He adds that Blumhouse is close to having a script for the upcoming movie.

“2025 is when Spawn is going to come out,” Blum shared. “I stand by that. I stand by that.”

He adds, “We’re very close to having a script that we’re all gonna feel great about. And once we have that, we’ll attach a director and an actor and we’re gonna go make the movie.”

However, this year has been pretty challenging for Hollywood with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which brought the movie industry to a standstill. Spawn’s lead actor Jamie Foxx had an undisclosed medical emergency that left him in the hospital for quite some time. While the details of the illness have been kept under wraps, the actor described the experience as being to “hell and back”.

“My original plan has gotten tripped up a bit,” McFarlane shared. “You deal with a lot, given Hollywood. None of that should be surprising. But, you start bringing on A-list people. And we’re bringing on A-list people. Not just one, but multiple A-list people. And, it’s going to continue to grow… What they’re not going to want is to do a cheap, low-budget movie with all of these big-name people on it. That’s not why they’re signing up. They’re not looking for a big extravaganza. But, they’re also not looking for an 8 million dollar horror movie budget.”

McFarlane recently gave an update about the upcoming reboot. According to the Spawn creator, the live-action film for a cross between Amazon’s The Boys and a traditional horror flick. The final version will be settled on by the end of the year, presumably once a script has been written.

“I think in between [The Boys and a traditional horror movie]. We’ve got a different group of people on board, and they might not be as darkly bent as I am,” McFarlane said in July. “If you ask me, I’d make it ugly, dark, make children cry. But the play we’re trying for, and we’ll see whether it works, and we’ll know by the end of this year — we’re taking a pretty big moonshot of what we think we can pull off in Hollywood. If we can pull it off, it will be a big deal, financially, and once you get into those conversations, they’re going to want to do it in a way that they can then get their money back.”

The author also addressed Foxx’s health issues, saying, “Until Jamie says he can’t, he’s still my guy.” He adds, “I’m very loyal to people, and Jamie was my guy and has been my guy. He’s had a bit of a setback and he says he’s going to get back to the top of the mountain. I have no doubt.”
