Doom Patrol, the little DC superhero TV show that could, is coming to a close. The premiere dates of the remaining Season 4 episodes have been announced, as well as when the series ends on Max.
There had been rumors that Doom Patrol’s remaining episodes were shelved. However, DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn denied these insinuations. Still, no release dates for the second half of Season 4 could be confirmed at the time.
Warner Bros. and Max (formerly HBO Max) confirmed the release of Doom Patrol’s last Season 4 episodes with a new trailer, which was shared on the DC, Warner Bros., and Max social media channels.

Prior to this, Doom Patrol aired its mid-season finale on January 6, leaving the fate of the team in a cliffhanger with their vitality drained and near-immortal lives trapped in a pocket dimension. Since then, Doom Patrol fans have been waiting for a clear announcement as to when the final episodes would be aired.
There were even worries that the show would not return, with speculation of its early demise discussed on forums and Reddit threads. After all, Doom Patrol and Titans were cancelled as part of the overhaul of the DC properties being made under James Gunn and Peter Safran. With the new DC Universe being built and quickly being pushed into development, it was reasonable to believe the Doom Patrol final episodes might not even be aired.
But the confirmation that the remaining chapters will be streaming on Max this October should put these rumors to rest. Moreover, the cast and production crew have promised that the series will end on a high note.
Although the Doom Patrol was created by Arnold Drake, Bob Haney, and Bruno Premiani back in 1963, the version that the TV series is based on was Grant Morrison’s from 1989. Morrison’s take on the strangest super-team leaned hard on the “strange” part, with more adult themes and highly imaginative storylines.
Because of the near X-rated themes compared to the mainstream DC Comics titles, the Doom Patrol comic shifted under the Vertigo imprint by 1993, along with Neil Gaiman’s Sandman. This version of the Doom Patrol ran until 1995, with the final issue #87. The Doom Patrol would remain in comic book limbo for a while before the team returned to the mainstream DC titles alongside the Justice League of America.
The Doom Patrol TV series was developed by Jeremy Carver, Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlanti for the DC Universe streaming service in 2019. It would later be aired on both DC Universe and on HBO Max, with the last two seasons being exclusively on the re-branded Max streaming service. The show has received critical and fan acclaim for its comic-accurate stories, as well as the great chemistry and acting from its main cast. Notably, Doom Patrol was one of the highlights of star Brendan Fraser’s big Hollywood comeback.

About DC’s Doom Patrol TV series:
“DC’s unlikeliest group of heroes, the Doom Patrol, are ready to save the world… kind of. After suffering horrific accidents that gave them superhuman abilities, Cliff/Robotman, Larry/Negative Man, Rita/Elasti-Woman, Jane/Crazy Jane, and Vic/Cyborg were each left scarred, disfigured, and ostracized – until mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder brings the outcasts together to treat and protect them. Gritty and irreverent, Doom Patrol follows this part support group, part superhero team as they take on evil, otherworldly forces determined to destroy humankind – even if it wants nothing to do with them.”
The final episodes of Doom Patrol begin streaming on Max on October 12, 2023. Each week will drop a new episode until November 9, 2023.
