Wrestling fans all over the world have been gripped by one question for the better part of the past month: Where is the Rated-R Superstar, Edge, end up next?
Despite talks of Edge’s possible departure to All Elite Wrestling, he appeared in the new SmackDown intro, suggesting a possible WWE return.
For what it’s worth, Edge himself confirmed that his WWE contract will end later this month while denying reports that the WWE had declined his conditions for renewal.
Dismissing many of the circulating stories, the 49-year-old wrestling icon mentioned, “There’s nothing going on. There’s no hard feelings between me and WWE. I love WWE, it’s my dream gig.” The 7-time World Heavyweight Champion then revealed the existence of a contract extension proposal from WWE, though he remains indecisive about his next steps. There’s also the possibility of Edge’s retirement from in-ring actions, given that he feels the Sheamus match might be hard to surpass.
More recently, on the “83 Weeks” episode, Eric Bischoff, a former wrestling executive, shared insights into what he may advise if he were managing Edge. Bischoff’s “glass-half-full” approach would involve discussing opportunities with the AEW founder, Tony Khan, and former WWE stalwart, Bryan Danielson, urging a collaborative effort between Bryan and Edge for Edge’s storylines. The “glass-half-empty” angle, though, sees a scenario where Khan may not be willing to give up his control, potentially leading to Edge being lost in the shuffle like many other former WWE talents.

Interestingly, Jim Ross, who has a deep history with Edge, having signed him and Christian for WWE, weighed in on the matter during Grilling JR. Ross recalls the early days of Edge’s career and believes in the vast potential of matches Edge could have in AEW against talents like Kenny Omega or Will Ospreay. However, Ross noted he’s in the dark about any definitive moves and mentioned a lucrative offer from WWE sitting for Edge.
TLDR; while many rumors surround Edge, it’s clear that he’s the one who holds all the cards.
So, where does this leave Edge? At a crossroads. His wrestling journey has been nothing short of legendary. Naturally, fans are eagerly waiting for his next chapter. Whether he continues his saga with WWE, takes a new route with AEW, ventures into other opportunities outside the ring, or even contemplates retirement, Edge’s influence and legacy in the wrestling world remain undeniable.

Of course, as previously reported, Edge could very well be like the Undertaker of the WWE – appearing only once a year in a special event. Many wrestlers have spoken against the wear and tear that this does to your body – some argue that you’re better off wrestling regularly so your body can “get used” to the grind – Edge is a seasoned veteran who can find a way to make this work. If this does happen, we’re hoping that he’ll make time to appear in every WrestleMania until his body tells him to quit.
