It’s been a full ten years since the last episode of the beloved American teen drama TV series Gossip Girl graced our screens. Luckily, die-hard fans of the show have a reason to get excited again as two of its leading cast members are gearing up for a mini-reunion.
Earlier this week, ‘Podcrushed’, a podcast hosted by Penn Badgley alongside Nava Kavelin and Sophie Ansari, shared two images on Instagram teasing the reunion of Penn Badgley and his Gossip Girl co-star, Taylor Momsen. In the first photo, Badgley appears to be playfully giving Momsen a noogie, while the second photo shows the two striking a pose with Badgley wearing eye makeup.
The caption, which reads, “A reunion worth waiting for… 👯 but don’t ask us what’s going on in the second photo, we don’t know either” alludes to the two actors reuniting on the upcoming episode of Podcrushed, which will be available on September 6.
Podcrusher seems to be the go-to venue for any reunions from this particular show – Momsen will not be the first Gossip Girl star to appear on the podcast, as another familiar face from the show, Leighton Meester, was featured in the pilot episode of the podcast.
Set in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Gossip Girl follows the lives, loves, and scandals of privileged teenagers through the eyes of an anonymous blogger known only as “Gossip Girl”. As she narrates the intertwined tales of the young and wealthy amidst designer outfits, lavish parties, and enviable social status, their friendships, rivalries, and forbidden affairs are exposed for all to see.
Penn Badgley, who starred as Dan Humphrey, appeared in Gossip Girl across all six seasons. Taylor Momsen (who plays Jenny Humphrey), however, left the show after the fourth season and quit acting to focus on her music career as the lead vocalist of the American rock band The Pretty Reckless. Momsen later returned to the CW series for a special guest appearance in the show’s finale.
During Gossip Girls’ early seasons, there were whispers of a potential spin-off series starring Momsen’s character, but the concept never received the green light. Following the show’s conclusion in 2012, a sequel of the same name with a new cast was created for HBO Max and premiered on the streaming service in 2021.

Though the sequel captured considerable attention during its premiere weekend, it couldn’t replicate the success of the original show, resulting in its cancellation after just two seasons.
