Horror fans are sure to be counting down the days until October for a couple of compelling reasons. Firstly, the ominous Friday the 13th coincides with the revered Halloween month, and secondly, the horror franchise named after this superstitious date is set to make its debut on HBO Max, perfectly timed for the Halloween season.
As reported by ComicBook.com, Warner Bros. Discovery has recently disclosed the lineup of films set to join its revamped streaming service this September. These sort of updates usually drive major subscriber number boosts.
Among its offerings are the first eight installments of the Friday the 13th series, namely (deep breath): Friday the 13th, Friday the 13th Part II, Friday the 13th Part III, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, Friday the 13th: A New Beginning, Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, and Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan. Phew.
The ninth film, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, had already been added to the platform a while back. Friday the 13th is considered one of the best horror franchises. Inspired by John Carpenter’s 1978 film, Halloween, director Sean S. Cunningham set out to make his own horror work of art, birthing the first film in the franchise in 1980.
Since then, there have been 11 mainline films, one crossover film with A Nightmare on Elm Street, a television series, and a plethora of literary works, including books, novels, and comics. Furthermore, the films have earned a cumulative box office revenue of over $468 million globally.
In addition to the Friday the 13th series, Max will also bring several other horror films to the platform, including:
- Annabelle
- Annabelle: Creation
- Annabelle Comes Home
- Carrie (1976)
- Carrie (2013)
- Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice

- Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror
- Children of the Corn 666: Isaac’s Return
- Children of the Corn: Revelation
- The Curse of La Llorona
- The Exorcist

Friday the 13th series will be available to stream starting September 1.
