Thor 5 is rumored to be in development at Marvel

Taika Waititi may be returning to direct the upcoming installment.

Thor 5 is in development according to a Hollywood insider.

Thor will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a fifth solo outing, among other appearances. A new rumor from one of the most popular movie leakers on Twitter seven uggests that Marvel is working on the sequel to Thor: Love and Thunder already.

MyTimeToShineHello shared on social media that Thor 5 is currently in development at Marvel Studios. According to the rumor, Taika Waititi has not been linked to the project but his return hasn’t been ruled out. The writers’ and actors’ strikes are likely preventing contracts from being signed and nothing can be announced until the work stoppage is resolved.

Thor 5 is in development at Marvel Studios,” MyTimeToShineHello tweeted. “Unfortunately there is a good chance Taika Waititi will return to direct but it is NOT a done deal. I’d like to see someone like Sam Hargrave doing it, he’ll make a badass Thor movie.

We assume that Sam Hargrave has been mentioned in the rumor due to his connection to Thor star Chris Hemsworth with the Extraction series on Netflix. The pair are reportedly working on the third installment for the popular Netflix movie series after the success of Extraction 2.

Marvel Phase 4’s Thor: Love and Thunder was a very divisive movie for longtime fans of the God of Thunder. Many praised Hemsworth’s performance in the movie but some felt that the comedic elements have worn thin. Even Hemsworth thought that the movie went a little overboard with the silliness.

“I think we just had too much fun. It just became too silly,” Hemsworth said of the previous movie. “It’s always hard being in the center of it and having any real perspective… I love the process, it’s always a ride. But you just don’t know how people are going to respond.”

The actor also hinted that he is open to returning to the role but does not want to overstay his welcome. Hemsworth revealed that he has no idea about what is next for his character in the MCU.

“I’ve got to be careful how I word that because I have no idea what’s happening in the next phase,” Hemsworth explained in an interview with Entertainment Weekly earlier this year. “There’s always conversations, like with Extraction. Before anything is official, people are throwing around ideas. But officially, I don’t know.”

Thor may be facing a more formidable foe in the next movie.

He adds, “I don’t want to continue to do it until people are so exhausted that they roll their eyes when they see me come on the screen as that character … If an audience wants to see it, and if there’s something that we believe is exciting and fun, then great. I’ve loved being able to reinvent that character a few times. I don’t have the answer yet, but I would love to try and [figure out] how we can do that again and keep it a little unpredictable.”

Waititi recently made comments about returning for a fifth movie. The director hints that if he were to return to the film series, the next villain would be much more powerful than Ragnarök’s Hela.

“What is left to do to him? It’s got to be something that feels like it’s carrying on with the evolution of the character, but still in a very fun way and still giving him things to come up against that feel like they’re building on the obstacles that he has to overcome,” the director said. “I don’t think we can have a villain that’s weaker than Hela. I feel like we need to step up from there and add a villain that’s somehow more formidable”
