Fans of the iconic pirate saga celebrated the manga’s 26th anniversary with a brand new trailer for the upcoming live-action series.
The latest trailer is nearly twice as long as the first one, thanks to the addition of exciting new characters like Gol D. Roger, Arlong, Mihawk, and more. It starts off with Roger’s legendary speech on the execution block, which kicked off a new age of pirates, including the show’s protagonist, Luffy.
We then see Luffy and his Strawhat Pirates setting sail on the Grand Line, with glimpses of some of the anime’s best fights like Mihawk vs. Zoro and Luffy vs. Arlong. And for the eagle-eyed fans, there are some fantastic Easter eggs in the trailer, such as Foxy and Bellamy’s wanted posters.
Eiichiro Oda, the manga’s author and executive producer of the Netflix live-action adaptation, assured fans in a letter that there were “no compromises” during the making of the show, stating:
There was so much that went into it–all of the efforts by the actors, the building of the world and the costumes, presenting things in a way that can only be done in live action, the dialogue–and the entire process of so many people putting their heads together was a festivity in and of itself.
The producers and the crew are pros at live action, and frankly, they’re One Piece superfans, too. The more knowledgeable you are about One Piece, the more you’re likely to notice the love they poured into this.
One Piece will set sail on Netflix on August 31.
