The Witcher Season 3 Part 2 trailer reveals Henry Cavill’s final episodes in the series

Geralt fights for his daughter in the trailer for the second half of Season 3.

We are just two weeks away from the premiere of Season 3 Part 2.

It is almost time to say goodbye to Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, as the latest trailer for the remaining episodes of Season 3 hint at his final episode. Quite honestly, we are not yet ready to bid him farewell.

Netflix released the trailer for the second half of Season 3 a day ago and it feels like Cavill is going out with a bang. The new teaser video sees Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer fight for their lives as their enemies close in on them.

In the new trailer, Geralt and Yennefer are determined to stay with Ciri as enemies hunt her down. She does get separated from the duo with a scene of her alone in the desert. Ciri does a great job at holding her own, showing fans how much she has grown over the course of three seasons.

“We didn’t come this far just to abandon each other,” Geralt states. “The war brewing outside is nothing compared to what Geralt will do to protect his daughter,” Jaskier adds. Fans who have read the books will have some idea of what these lines refer to.

Season 3 is based on Time of Contempt, the fifth book of The Witcher series, and second of the on-going storyline, by Andrzej Sapkowski. After two seasons of denying his destiny, Geralt finally accepts his role of father and protector.

“For years, Geralt has claimed neutrality, shunned politics, and publicly asserted that witchers don’t have emotions — all to make his life as a killer easier to navigate,” The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich explained back in April. “We’ve seen him battle monsters and monstrous humans; we’ve watched as he’s hardened himself in order to survive. This season, he can no longer do that.”

Part 2 of Season 3 is “the culmination of what we’ve been building toward all along,” Hissrich said. “We get to see everything on the Continent change, which is super exciting.” In a world where conjunctions of spheres happen, that change is more literal than some might expect.

As exciting as this all sounds, it will still be a somber moment for fans as we all watch Cavill in his final episodes as Geralt. The actor announced his departure from the series after the filming of the third season concluded. He will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth for the final two seasons of The Witcher.

Geralt will do everything in his power to protect Ciri.

Netflix reportedly already has a plan in place to seamlessly introduce Hemsworth as the new Geralt. Fans speculate that Ciri will be transported to an alternate world where Hemsworth is Geralt. The upcoming season may take inspiration from the events of Lady in the Lake where Ciri is portalled to the world of the Aen Elle elves.

“There’s no coming back from this,” Geralt said at the end of the trailer. It will indeed be the end of Cavill’s tenure as the monster hunter.

The Witcher Season 3 Part 2 is coming to Netflix on July 27, 2023.
