The Writers Guild of America strike has hit the three-month mark since it started on May 2, causing a major standstill in Hollywood. Production delays have plagued numerous shows, putting them on indefinite hold. However, there is a silver lining amidst the chaos: Amazon Prime Video’s Gen V, the spin-off of The Boys, remains unaffected.
The Boys: Gen V is set to release as planned this fall, according to Variety. The R-rated superhero series, which centers around superpowered teenagers, finished filming last September and is now in post-production. Despite the looming possibility of another strike, this time involving the actors, Gen V will still make its premiere later this year.
The stalemate between the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers doesn’t seem like it will be coming to an end anytime soon, and to make matters worse, The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) might be joining the strike party sooner than we thought.
The American labor union, which represents film and television actors, journalists, voice actors, and other media professionals, is gearing up to go on strike tomorrow unless a fair deal is reached by 11:59 p.m. PT today. In the past, it had organized strikes centered around dealings in the video game industry, among others.
Despite agreeing to federal mediation to address the heated contract disputes, the union’s statement strongly indicates that a strike is highly probable.
We will not be distracted from negotiating in good faith to secure a fair and just deal by the expiration of our agreement. We are committed to the negotiating process and will explore and exhaust every possible opportunity to make a deal, however we are not confident that the employers have any intention of bargaining toward an agreement.
Residual payments to performers from streaming platforms are a major point of contention in the ongoing dispute. SAG-AFTRA is pushing for increased payments that align with the success of shows, while streamers argue that profitability is still a challenge for many platforms. If a strike occurs, it would be the first time since 1980 that SAG-AFTRA members take to the picket line.
Here’s a quick rundown of some of the highly anticipated shows that have been delayed so far:
- The Boys Season 4
- The Last of Us Season 2
- Stranger Things Season 5
- The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6
- The Penguin Season 1
- Peacemaker Season 2
- Wednesday Season 2
- 1923 Season 2
- Tulsa King Season 2
- Euphoria Season 3

HBO’s House of the Dragon was previously reported to be unaffected by the writers’ strike, but if SAG-AFTRA asks its members to down their tools, it could impact the ongoing production, which is currently filming in Spain.
