Season 3 of The Witcher is almost upon us, which means it will soon be time to say goodbye to Henry Cavill. While many fans are not yet ready to let go of the Superman actor, the show’s producer already has plans on how to transition to new lead actor Liam Hemsworth.
Steve Gaub and Tomek Baginski, executive producers of The Witcher, recently talked about the upcoming season in an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment. The producers revealed some details about Cavill’s final scenes as Geralt and how the showrunners plan to integrate its next star into the series.
“It’s a very strong season for Henry, a great final run for him as Geralt,” Gaub said in the interview. “I think the most important thing for us was to make sure he was very proud of those last [scenes], invariably those last moments are the ones you leave an audience with, and those last couple episodes are very strong episodes for him.”
He adds, “I think he left with his head held high and passing the reins as many franchises end up doing, passing a title character from one actor to another, and we’re going to be in great hands with Liam.”

Cavill announced his departure from the popular Netflix series a few months after filming for the third season concluded. Fans were disappointed about the actor’s departure and demanded that Netflix retain Cavill. A petition to have Cavill come back in the series was signed by hundreds of thousands of The Witcher fans.
The producers may be trying to soften the blow to fans by easing replacement actor Liam Hemsworth into the series. The show’s executive producer, Tomek Baginski, revealed that the showrunners have come up with a plan on how to transition to Hemsworth in Season 4.
“We have a very, very good plan to introduce our new Geralt and our new vision for Geralt with Liam,” Baginski said. “Not going deeply into those ideas because this will be a huge spoiler, [but] it’s also very, very close to the meta ideas which are deeply embedded in the books, especially in book five.”

The mention of book five is very interesting and hints about the show’s plans in introducing a new Geralt to the series. In the fifth book titled The Lady of the Lake, Ciri goes through a portal and finds herself in another world. The showrunners may try to introduce some sort of multiverse plot where Ciri meets a different version of Geralt in this alternate world.
The first half of The Witcher Season 3 is set to premiere on Netflix on June 29.
