Tom Holland defends The Crowded Room amidst negative critic reviews

The Crowded Room continues a pattern we've been witnessing in the entertainment industry, where the opinions of audiences and critics have been diverging significantly.

Tom Holland’s portrayal of Spider-Man has unquestionably been a standout in his career. Yet, it seems his acting success is confined to the friendly neighborhood webslinger, as his most recent performance has once again come under fire from critics.

The English actor’s most recent role has been in the Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room, which made its premiere on the platform earlier this month. While audiences have showered the series with praise, awarding it an impressive 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes, critics, on the other hand, have been less generous, doling out a meager 33% approval rating.

Nevertheless, Holland is boldly weathering the unfavorable critic reviews, as he candidly shared in a recent interview with UNILAD.

It’s no secret that my show has been so horribly reviewed, but I’m here today to promote the show. I’m still here, so I’m very resilient.

The message of the show, which can address various issues, is that asking for help should be celebrated in our society. It’s an act of bravery.

If we can somehow empower people to say, ‘I’m not feeling good, I really need some help,’ then we’ve achieved our goal.

The Crowded Room takes audiences on a gripping psychological journey, drawing inspiration from Daniel Keyes’ non-fiction novel “The Minds of Billy Milligan,” published in 1981. The series revolves around the protagonist, Danny Sullivan, who finds himself entangled in a New York City shooting in 1979, resulting in his arrest.

Through a series of intense interviews with interrogator Rya Goodwin, Danny gradually unravels his tortured past, revealing the intricate events that ultimately led him to that fateful moment.

Holland didn’t hold back when discussing the toll his role took on him, revealing that he reached a breaking point in his personal life. It was all so overwhelming that he made the brave choice to step away from acting for a whole year.

The 27-year-old actor is no stranger to prioritizing mental health, having previously taken a social media hiatus for the same purpose.

Amanda Seyfried portrays interrogator Rya Goodwin in the show.

Despite the initial wave of negative reviews, the show has seen a notable improvement in ratings with its recent episodes. As we eagerly await the release of the last five episodes, there is a glimmer of hope that they will provide a much-needed boost for both Apple TV+ and Tom Holland.
