John Cena calls Barbie movie casting a “happy accident”

You could even say that John Cena didn't "see" the minor role he had for Barbie coming his way after a chance meeting with Margot Robbie.

This will be the second time that Margot Robbie and John Cena will work together on the same film.

You’ll never know what life has in store for you. One moment, you’re the biggest star in the WWE and someone who’s very capable of filling stadiums. The next one, you’ve landed a role in a live-action film adaptation based on arguably the most iconic doll of all time.

John Cena, one of the most decorated wrestlers of all time, will go from coming back to the WWE and being a part of the opening match of WrestleMania 39 Day 1 against Austin Theory in Los Angeles to being in the Barbie movie in the same year.

Cena revealed on The Today Show that he just happened to bump into the upcoming film’s lead actress, Margot Robbie, who he told that he’d do anything asked of him for a chance to be a part of the movie and that was that.

At the time, Cena was filming Fast X close to where Barbie was also filming, which also made his appearance in both films easier.

Cena will reprise his role as Jakob Torreto in Fast X on May 19.

John Cena has been a busy man lately with multiple starring roles under his belt.

Of course, it probably helps that Cena and Robbie already knew each other beforehand. The two starred together in 2021’s The Suicide Squad, the well-reviewed but commercially-tame entry to the DC Extended Universe by the now-co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn.

After a short break earlier this year, Cena’s got a busy schedule ahead of him. In addition to Barbie, which is coming out on July 21, Cena is voicing Rocksteady in the upcoming animated film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, as well as the Coyote vs. Acme movie. Finally, Cena is expected to come back as the titular character in Season 2 of Peacemaker whenever James Gunn is finished working on Superman: Legacy.
