Mark St. Germain’s play, Freud’s Last Session, is currently being adapted for the screen, and we now have our first look at Anthony Hopkins as Sigmund Freud, alongside Matthew Goode as C.S. Lewis.
Produced by WestEnd Films, the story centers around the renowned psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud engaging in a debate about the existence of God with the legendary writer C.S. Lewis at his London home. Alongside this debate, the film delves into Freud’s relationship with his daughter Anna and Lewis’ connection with his best friend’s mother.
In November of last year, Sony Pictures acquired the global distribution rights to the film, and production commenced in January. Matt Brown is directing the screenplay written by Mark St. Germain, and filming is currently taking place in Ireland, with production coming to a close soon. Alan Greisman, Rick Nicita, Meg Thomson, and Hannah Leader will serve as the producers.
Besides Anthony Hopkins and Matthew Goode, the film features a cast of relatively unknown actors, including:
- Liv Lisa Fries as Anna Freud
- Jodi Balfour
- Stephen Campbell Moore
- Jeremy Northam
- Orla Brady

As of now, there is no official release date set for Freud’s Last Session.
