The Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the most lucrative multimedia franchises in the world with more than $26 billion in revenue. With over 30 feature films released since its inception, as well as a handful of television series, it is also one of the most robust movie franchises.
Given its expansive content library as well as the numerous films and television series that are still in development, Marvel Studios has enough material to hold a standalone convention. Now, according to a recent development, the company has given such an event some thought.
During a recent chit-chat with the Popverse at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, Marvel Comics’ editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski revealed that the company is thinking of its own event or celebration. In his words, “We would love to do a Marvel event or a Marvel Celebration or something like that. There’s a lot of different ways we have to think about it, and different ways we can handle it.”
Cebulski pointed out that they have already done some minor events, like the Marvel Insider events, as well as the online X-Men and Deadpool celebrations, that serve as a means of testing the waters. The Marvel honcho expressed confidence that they will get to a position where they can hold a full-fledged convention or celebration “dedicated to everything that we all love in the last 60 plus years of Marvel history.” Nevertheless, he expressed reservations stating that he can’t say for sure just yet.
Cebulski’s comments echo that of Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige. The studio’s 2022 Disney+ television series Ms. Marvel had a fictional AvengerCon event that had fans clamoring for a real-life version. While speaking at a press conference for the television series, Feige stated “It was very cathartic for all of us to see that and we were shooting Spider-Man: No Way Home on the stage right next door, the scene with the three Spideys. The crew from that movie kept sneaking over to see [AvengersCon]. I think that might be fun to do sometime.”

At the moment, Marvel showcases its content and intellectual properties at the annual San Diego Comic Con in California. However, if it were to host its own event, its relationship with the San Diego Comic Con is bound to change as it will likely move its big reveals to its celebration instead. While this is not necessarily a bad thing, it could very well spell the beginning of the end for the San Diego Comic Con, especially if DC decides to take a book from Marvel’s book and host its own event.
In other news, DC Studios co-chair James Gunn recently revealed he has ideas for a Marvel and DC crossover. The filmmaker and director stated that there have already been conversations around the possibility but it is at least some years into the future. Also, Marvel Studios’ recently let go of its co-president Victoria Alonso for allegedly breaching the terms of her contract.
