Marvel is bringing back one of the original stars of the franchise in Captain America: New World Order. A new report reveals that Liv Tyler, who played a role in the second MCU movie ever, will be reprising her role as Betty Ross in the upcoming movie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor will be returning to the MCU for the first time in fifteen years. The last time Tyler appeared in a Marvel movie was in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk where she starred alongside Edward Norton.
The Incredible Hulk was the second movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the second movie featuring The Hulk. It was both Tyler and Norton’s only appearances in a MCU film. The first Hulk movie starred Eric Bana and Jennifer Connelly while Marvel replaced Norton with Mark Ruffalo in later movies.
Tyler joins The Incredible Hulk co-star Tim Blake Nelson in Captain America: New World Order. Nelson reprises his role as Samuel Sterns aka Mr. Blue in the upcoming movie. The return of these actors might hint at storyline links between the films.
Captain America: New World Order will be the fourth movie in the series and the feature film debut of Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson as the new Captain America. The actor took over the mantle of Captain America after the retirement of Steve Rogers in Avengers: Endgame.
Wilson previously appeared as Captain America in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The Falcon, aka the new Captain America, will be parting ways with Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier in the MCU. Barnes will lead the Thunderbolts, a team of anti-heroes and villains under the direction of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross.
Harrison Ford is set to appear as the General and Betty Ross’ father in Captain America 4. Ford takes over the role from the late William Hurt, who passed away last year. The Indiana Jones star will also be appearing in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie alongside the Winter Soldier and his team of misfits.
General Ross and Samuel Sterns will serve as the antagonists in Captain America: New World Order. According to earlier reports, Wilson will have a major showdown against General Ross in the movie, however details about the fight are scarce.
Sterns, on the other hand, will become the Leader, a villain possessing superhuman intellect. It was revealed in the events of The Incredible Hulk that Sterns mutated into the Leader after receiving some of Hulk’s blood.
Joining the cast of Captain America 4 is Danny Ramirez, who is making his MCU movie debut as Joaquin Torres, the new Falcon. Wilson entrusted the Falcon wingsuit to Torres as he takes on the identity of Captain America.
Captain America: New World Order is arriving in theaters on May 3, 2024.
