In February 2022, Peacock revealed it was working on a new animated series, Megamind’s Guide To Defending Your City, a follow-up to the DreamWorks Animation superhero comedy film, Megamind, which came out in 2010. Since then, we’ve gotten very little info about the project – until now.
A little over a year following the announcement, fresh details have come to light, including a new poster confirming that the series is still in the works and is set to arrive in 2024. The poster shows Megamind against a dark, minimalist backdrop with an evil grin on his face.
Last year’s announcement revealed TV series will chronicle the titular character’s metamorphosis from an evil supervillain to superhero and savior of Metro City, as well as an influencer who takes audiences through his adventures via footage from his brain bots.
While the grin in the poster probably means nothing, it hints that the series might tell a different story. Instead of embracing his new status as a superhero, Megamind might turn back to his evil roots and terrorize Metro City some more. The fact that the poster simply bore the name Megamind and did not contain any reference to the previously announced title lends credence to this theory.
The original Megamind told the story of a humanoid alien who is maligned during his formative years. Consequently, this turns him into a supervillain. After he seemingly defeats his arch nemesis, Metro Man, he becomes bored and purposeless. He develops a plan to create a new hero. However, it goes awry and his new creation turns out to be even more villainous than him. With no one left to turn to, Megamind shed his garb of villainy and took it upon himself to save the city.

Megamind starred Will Ferrell as the titular character and Brad Pitt as Metro Man. Jonah Hill, Ben Stiller, Tom McGrath, J. K. Simmons, Tina Fey, and David Cross played supporting roles. The film was directed by Tom McGrath based on a screenplay by Alan Schoolcraft and Brent Simons.
Megamind received generally positive critical reviews. The film was also mildly successful at the box office, grossing $321 million against a $130 million budget. Despite its gross, it was one of DreamWorks Animation’s lowest-earning CG animated films of the period. Nevertheless, it spawned a franchise that includes three games and a short film, and which is about to be expanded with the upcoming series.
The Megamind television series will arrive at an unannounced date in 2024.
Speaking of DreamWorks projects, a live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon is currently in the works.
