Brendan Fraser has had a rough couple of years, but his stock is on the rise again. The actor, popular for roles in popcorn flicks like George of the Jungle and The Mummy, won the Oscar Award for Best Actor in a feature film less than two weeks ago. Now, a former co-star has expressed interest in sharing the big screen with him again.
During a Clueless reunion panel at recently held ’90s Con, Alicia Silverstone, in response to a fan’s question, admitted she would be happy to star opposite Fraser in a Blast from the Past sequel. In the film, Silverstone starred as Eve Rustikov, the love interest of Adam Webber, Fraser’s character.
In her words, “With Brendan? I would do anything with Brendan. It was so much fun. I just saw Brendan after he won his Oscar and he’s so cute. He talked in his speech about how we all go through this really hard time and you have to grow and it’s part of life that you struggle and then look what happened to him! So yes, I’m happy to do that.”
Fraser won his Oscar for his performance in the Darren Aronofsky psychological drama film The Whale and the speech that Silverstone referred to in her statement was his acceptance speech, which Oscar attendees and viewers found emotional. Fraser began his speech by appreciating his studio A-24, his director Aronofsky, and the writer Samuel D. Hunter.
He continued, “I started in this business 30 years ago, things didn’t come easy to me but there was a facility that I didn’t appreciate at the time, until it stopped. I just want to say thank you for this acknowledgement. It couldn’t be done without my cast. It’s been like I’ve been on a diving expedition and the air on the line to the surface is being watched over by some people in my life like my sons.”

Blast from the Past, released in 1999, is a science fiction film with elements of romance and comedy. It followed 35-year-old Webber who had lived his entire life in an underground shelter built by his father. However, with dwindling supplies and an ailing father, he is forced above ground where he meets Eve.
Apart from Silverstone and Fraser, Blast from the Past also starred Christopher Walken, Dave Foley, Dale Raoul, Jenifer Lewis, Nathan Fillion, and Sissy Spacek. The film was directed by Hugh Wilson based on a screenplay he co-wrote with Bill Kelly. Wilson also served as one of the film’s producers, alongside Amanda Stern and Renny Harlin.
Fraser will next star in Brothers and Killers of the Moon, which are both in post-production. If he has his way, he will reprise his role as adventurer Rick O’Connell in a fourth installment of The Mummy.
