Fans are eagerly awaiting the second season of Marvel’s What If…? Unfortunately, it may be a while before we get a new season for the critically acclaimed animated anthology series on Disney+, if the new report is to be believed.
KC Walsh, an established insider, reports that the second season of What If…? has been delayed. Apparently, Season 2 won’t debut on Disney+ until the first quarter of 2024, while the third season has been penciled in for 2025.
Marvel previously announced that Season 2 of What If…? will come in early 2023. However, we have not heard any update for the second season. The delay may have something to do with Marvel’s plan to have a lesser number of shows and focus more on the quality of the content being produced.
Walsh has also shared the entire release calendar for upcoming Marvel films and TV shows. It includes unannounced movies Eternals 2 and Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings 2.

What we know about What If…? Season 2
Fans have been excited for the second season of the hit animated show as director Bryan Andrews promised that it will have crazy concepts. The director said that Season 2 will take things up a notch from the first season.
“Obviously, more unique stories that slowly get a little bit wilder,” Andrews said of the second season. “The first season, Kevin wanted to keep it a little bit closer to the vest, have a little thing that was different and that little thing made these things different, but still tied very much to either a moment in the movies or a particular film itself. Now, there’s more films and things to pull from, so we don’t have to have just a tiny moment. We can expand out and things can get a little bit wackier.”
He adds, “We take it up a notch in season two and then in season three we just go even wackier. In season two, we have different characters that we haven’t really got a chance to play with before and we see how they’ll integrate with some of the favorites that come back. There’s lots of really cool stuff and I can’t wait for people to see it.”
Andrews revealed that Academy Award Winner Cate Blanchett will be reprising the role of Hela, Thor’s elder sister. According to the director, What If…? will have a unique take on the Asgardian Goddess of Death.
The Watcher will be returning as the narrator for Season 2 of the animated anthology series.
“[The Watcher’s] watching, like we all watch,” Executive producer Brad Winderbaum said. “And he loves these characters like we do. So we can dig in a little deeper into what makes him tick in the second season, and then into the third season, we kind of get to know his humanity a lot more.”
Marvel has not yet announced the official release date for Season 2. In the meantime, fans can watch the first season of the show on Disney+.
