X-Men star, Hugh Jackman, has confirmed that he’s signed up to play a “dual role” in Deadpool 3. We’ve known for a while that Jackman will make his MCU debut alongside Ryan Reynolds, who is playing the titular character. But, as it turns out, he is playing multiple versions of himself, or at least, that’s what most of us believe.
Jackman made this revelation to La Parisien. Now, fans expect to see multiple Wolverine variants appear.
Of course, since Reynolds is involved, it wouldn’t surprise us if the Merc with a Mouth will encounter Jackman as he moves through the multiverse.
After buying FOX many years ago, it was only a matter of time before Disney used actors from previous X-Men films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It all started with Evan Peters’ cameo in WandaVision followed by Patrick Stewart reprising his former role as the Professor X of the Illuminati from Earth-838.
If we’re lucky, Ian McKellen and his Magneto could join the MCU in Deadpool 3 as well.
Having said that, Jackman’s Wolverine is arguably the most involved that an actor from a past X-Men film is going to be in the MCU. Technically, Reynolds’ Deadpool films exist in the same universe as the X-Men movies, but you get what we mean.

Despite being far from comic-accurate (Jackman is well over 6 feet and Wolverine is only 5-foot-3 in the comic books), fans have embraced Jackman’s portrayal of the bestial mutant. It wouldn’t surprise us if Jackman enjoys a more involved role in the MCU after Deadpool 3. Rumor has it that Avengers: Secret Wars will feature characters throughout the multiverse, including Wolverine.
The best-case scenario is that Jackman’s Wolverine also exists in Earth-616, the universe where the MCU takes place. If this is true, then Jackman could play Wolverine well past Secret Wars.
Deadpool 3 is currently scheduled to premiere on November 8, 2024 but it’s believed that Marvel Studios plans to reshuffle the premiere dates of its upcoming films and shows.
