Fans know that the duo of Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are inseparable in the X-Men movies as the pair have portrayed Professor X and Magneto since 2000’s X-Men.
Stewart made his MCU debut as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, much to the delight of fans. In addition to this, the actor recently hinted that he may have a part in Deadpool 3 alongside Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
It looks like Stewart is not the only one making a return, as Stewart also hinted that McKellen may be reprising his role as Magneto. In an interview with ET Online, Stewart teased that his longtime X-Men co-star might be interested in returning as Magneto in the MCU.
“Charles Xavier? Well, I am looking to borrow his wheelchair if we’re to do much more Star Trek, or standing up is becoming a bit of a problem.,” Stewart said. He adds that “[he] can’t say about what Charles’ future might possibly hold.”
Stewart went on to reveal that he and McKellen “got plans”, alluding to a possible reunion for the iconic duo from the X-Men.
“Actually, it went very well,” Stewart shared. “He did say something like [‘Hey, I would’ve done this!’], yes that’s true. But we’re not done, Sir Ian and myself. We’re… we got plans.”

Stewart did not specifically mention which project the two have plans for. Marvel has promised to bring the X-Men into the MCU since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige previously teased that the X-Men are close to returning with the appearance of Wolverine in Deadpool 3.
Marvel, however, has not yet revealed its plans for the X-Men. It might take a while before we see the mutant team take to the big screen once again. The MCU has just started to introduce mutants such as Namor, Miss Marvel, and Wolverine into the universe.
Magneto could also appear alongside Professor X in Deadpool 3. The likelihood that other Fox Universe mutants will be involved in the movie is quite high. There was speculation that the plot for Deadpool 3 would be similar to Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe where Wade Wilson travels to a different timeline to eliminate the Fox Marvel Universe.
Avengers: Secret Wars could also be a good movie for the return of Magneto. Marvel may opt to bring in the powerful mutant at the end of the Multiverse Saga to set up the next phases of the MCU. There are rumors that the Mutant Saga will take place in Phases 7 to 9.

Fans will surely be excited at the prospect of McKellen returning as Magneto. It really does not matter which movie it is, as long as Magneto and Professor X share the screen once more.
Deadpool 3 is opening in theaters on November 8, 2024 while Avengers: Secret Wars is slated to premiere on May 1, 2026.
