Amy Adams open to return as Lois Lane in future Superman films

Amy Adams famously portrayed Clark Kent's other half in the then-Zack Snyder-led DC Extended Universe.

It'd be pretty jarring to see Henry Cavill return as Superman and have a different actress play Lois Lane.

Amy Adams has four acting credits as Lois Lane to her name, as part of the DC Extended Universe, after joining the struggling cinematic universe in 2013 in Man of Steel. In case Warner Bros. Discovery comes calling, Adams has confirmed she is open to a fifth.

Adams recently revealed to Variety, during the premiere of Disenchanted, that she’s open to returning as Lois Lane, saying:

They [DC] haven’t spoken to me about it. If it’s me, great. If it’s somebody else, the role of Lois has been filled by so many wonderful actresses in the past, so I’ll support whatever direction they go.

At least eight different actresses have played the role of Lois Lane throughout the years, but Adams is the only one to have had a chance to portray the love of Superman’s life multiple times in recent years. The only ones with multiple credits as Lois Lane on the big screen is Margaret Ruth Kidder and Noel Neill.

Although the DCU’s new heads could technically bring in a new face, fans would love to see Adams back as Henry Cavill’s on-screen pattern.

James Gunn could flip the DCU script and have a different Superman love interest come in going forward.

Cavill last portrayed Superman or Clark Kent in Zack Snyder’s Justice League last year. Even though the reshoot of 2017’s Justice League wasn’t enough to bring Snyder back on board (at least, not yet), it did get the ball rolling on Cavill’s eventual return as Superman. Cavill most recently appeared in a mid-credits scene for the DCU’s latest film, Black Adam, where he tells Dwayne Johnson’s titular character that they “needed to talk.”

The future is bright for the DCU now that someone who might actually have a grand vision is in charge. Bringing back Adams would only serve to make the cinematic universe’s future brighter.
