Adam Sandler is reuniting with Uncut Gems directors

2019's Uncut Gems is widely considered as the start of the resurgence of Adam Sandler's Hollywood career.

After starring in a string of blockbuster hits throughout the 90s and 2000s, Adam Sandler was never going to be left wanting more money. However, a series of duds in the early 2010s made him less of a draw, save for a couple of hidden gems. Then, in 2019, Uncut Gems was released on Netflix, and just like that, Sandler reinvented himself.

Three years later, Sandler is reportedly reuniting with Uncut Gems’ directors, Josh and Benny Safdie, on a mystery project.

Unfortunately, IndieWire stopped short of adding details about what kind of project the trio is “cooking up”, but judging from Uncut Gems and Sandler’s latest movies, audiences will want to keep an eye on it.

Hopefully, Sandler's next project with the Safdies is as good as Uncut Gems.

Critics and audiences consider Uncut Gems the best film by Sandler. The crime thriller film saw Sandler play a jeweler with a serious gambling problem who finds himself in deep financial trouble. Sandler’s characters then have to get his hands on an expensive gem to help pay his debtors. In addition to Sandler, Uncut Gems featured a relatively stacked cast of stars like Julia Fox, LaKeith Sanfield, Idina Menzel, and Kevin Garnett.

Uncut Gems was also the start of Sandler’s fruitful relationship with Netflix. Since then, the 50 First Dates actor has worked on several other films for the streaming giant, like Hustle, which is set to come out later this year.

As for the Safdies, Uncut Gems was their latest feature film. However, the pair of directors has since appeared in several other films. Benny, in particular, is set to join the ensemble cast of the upcoming war drama, Oppenheimer, by Christopher Nolan. Benny is also part of Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series in an undisclosed role.

We wouldn't mind seeing an Uncut Gems sequel if it's as compelling as the first.
