Why is Grand Theft Auto 6 taking so long?

According to the Take-Two Interactive CEO, the challenge with GTA 6 is that Rockstar Games will settle for "nothing short of perfection."

Fans worldwide are eagerly awaiting Grand Theft Auto 6, the upcoming title from industry giants, Rockstar Games. But with higher expectations comes its fair share of challenges, as highlighted by the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company.

Rockstar Games' chase for perfection is one of the main reasons why GTA 6 is taking so long.

TweakTown recently covered the interview by The Aarthi and Sriram Show with Take-Two CEO, Strauss Zelnick, where he'd spoken of the reason why GTA 6 is taking so long.

Here's what Zelnick said about the challenge faced by Rockstar in regard to GTA 6:

I think that's a challenge that the folks that Rockstar face every time there's a new iteration of Grand Theft Auto. It needs to be something you've never seen before on the one hand, and it needs to reflect the feeling that we have about Grand Theft Auto. That's a big challenge for the team. Now, Rockstar's answer is just seek perfection; seek nothing short of perfection, and we'll get there.

His words echo what he said last year when he said GTA 6 will set the creative benchmark in the entertainment industry.

We're excited to see what a modern version of Vice City will look like on today's hardware.

Creating a sequel to the incredibly popular GTA V isn't an easy feat. As the second-best-selling video game in the world, GTA VI can't just create a bigger world with more missions. The team at Rockstar has the tall task of making a unique and immersive experience.

With GTA 6, the stakes for the franchise are higher than ever, given the vast commercial and critical success of GTA V.

The scale of the upcoming project, the anticipation from eager fans, and the ever-evolving nature of the gaming landscape as well as the growing costs of making video games, all play a factor in the long development time of GTA 6.

GTA 6 has long been rumored to get an official reveal some time later this year.

Despite the hurdles it's currently facing, Take-Two and Rockstar appear confident that they can deliver an unparallel gaming experience. It's a good thing that both companies are aware of what's at stake and are striving to exceed their fans' expectations with the release date of GTA 6.

So, while no official release date has been announced, fans can rest easy knowing that all capable hands are on deck for the next GTA game.

Of course, as we wait to find out exactly how Rockstar sought perfect for GTA 6, the long-rumored co-lead of the game has continued to troll fans with his social media posts.

Given that Take-Two doesn't take official leaks lightly, fans might want to take his teases with a grain of salt.

However, despite how hard Take-Two tries to hide GTA 6, it can't exactly do it forever. Most recently, Take-Two gave us the best clue of when GTA 6 will launch as Take-Two reveals its plans to launch "several ground-breaking titles" in the 2025 FY that will help the company "achieve over $8 billion (£6.4 billion) in net bookings."

GTA 6 will probably never outsell GTA 5 but that doesn't mean Rockstar and Take-Two won't stop trying.

And, thus, the long wait continues. But, hey, at least this dedication to quality and immersive gameplay should guarantee a monumental success for GTA 6 that should continue racking up sales well into the next decade.
