Capcom is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year in style by hosting a digital showcase on Monday, June 12.
Spanning approximately 36 minutes, the show promises to deliver a flurry of updates on existing hits, teases for upcoming titles, and perhaps, a few surprises thrown in for good measure.
With a variety of Capcom IPs likely in the mix, fans are eager to know what's in store for the brand's next chapter.
The event kicks off at 3:00 PM PT, 6:00 PM ET, and 11:00 PM UK, which is expected to be a riveting affair. The anticipation comes on the back of Capcom's impressive recent track record, with hits like the Resident Evil 4 Remake and Street Fighter 6, the latter of which became the most popular fighting game on Steam just days after launching.
Speculation about what the event will contain is rampant. Some fans wonder if the showcase could be where Capcom will reveal the next Resident Evil Remake, especially after the company started asking around for input from players. Although it's highly likely that we'll hear more about the next entry in the Resident Evil franchise first before we get a new remake.
Other beloved IPs in the Capcom repertoire may also make an appearance. A sure-fire inclusion in Street Fighter 6 but we might hear about the next entry in the Monster Hunter and Devil May Cry franchise at the event. Other potential candidates include Dragon's Dogma 2 and Pragmata. But, the more hopeful ones are wishing that Capcom will give a re-release of Dino Crisis a chance now that Shinji Mikami has left Tango Gameworks.
As part of the bustling not-E3 season, the Capcom Showcase will take place among a host of other major presentations like the Summer Game Fest on June 8, the Xbox Games Showcase and Starfield Direct on June 11-12, and Ubisoft Forward on June 12.
Despite the lack of concrete details regarding the content of the show, one thing is certain: Capcom, a veteran player in the video game industry, is not one to disappoint. As the company revels in a highly successful year, it's poised to bring forth a showcase that not only pays tribute to its four-decade legacy but also sets the tone for what's next. Given Capcom's recent surge, one can't help but feel optimistic about the brand's future and its best-selling franchises.
We'll just have to wait until June 12 to see what surprises Capcom has in store for us fans.
