The series' showrunners are excited to return for a second season on Netflix. "We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky, spooky world of Nevermore," Wednesday Season 1 co-showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough said of the renewal. "We just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first."
Wednesday season 2 promises audiences that "more torture is coming." Hopefully, we'll get more Addams Family members to appear during season 2.
We've been expecting a renewal for Wednesday for some time now. But, at the very least, this should put all the speculation that Wednesday could move to Amazon Prime to rest.
The Netflix series starring Jenna Ortega broke the record for the most hours viewed twice. During its premiere week, the show was viewed a total of 341.23 million hours surpassing the previous record held by Stranger Things 4 at 335.01 million hours. Wednesday then broke its own record the following week, getting a total of 411.29 million watch hours. The TV series became the second-most watched English-language show on the streaming platform in its third week, with a total of 1.02 billion viewing hours.
Ortega’s dance number also became a viral sensation on TikTok and received a massive 22 billion views. Millions of users on the social media platform have posted their own versions of the "Bloody Mary" dance. Even well-known celebrities such as Lady Gaga got in on the trend.
"It’s been incredible to create a show that’s connected with people across the world," Millar and Gough continue. "We’re thrilled to continue Wednesday’s torturous journey into Season 2."
Wednesday Season 2 builds on the ending of the first season where a stalker roaming Nevermore Academy. Wednesday received mysterious texts and creepy photos from an unknown source during the final episode.
"[The stalker proves] that threats remain out there… to both Wednesday and the school," Millar reveals. "Not all not loose ends have been tied up neatly as she thinks they have."
Netflix has not yet revealed the release date for Wednesday but we can be certain that it will be on a Wednesday and possibly in November. We are not sure of the year though, 2024 maybe?
