Morpheus plays a central role in the first three Matrix films.
He was the one responsible for liberating Keanu Reeves' Neo from the Matrix.
So, you can't exactly blame fans for asking questions after the first Matrix: Resurrections trailer dropped.
MORE INFO
In particular, who was Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's character in the fourth Matrix?
Did Resurrections just recast Morpheus? Or his role similar to that of Morpheus? If it's the former, then why?
Now, the Aquaman actor has answered at least part of the question.
FULL DETAILS
With Abdul-Mateen II confirmed as Morpheus, fans are now wondering why the film will feature a younger version of the character.
Is it a reboot? A prequel? Or maybe a little bit of both?
Also, why was Morpheus recast but not Neo and Trinity?
Both Keanu Reeves and
Carrie-Anne Moss look visibly older in the upcoming Matrix installment.
Of course, all fans can do for now is to speculate.
Audiences will have to make do with the trailer until the fourth Matrix film premieres.
Luckily, Resurrections' premiere date isn't too far away.
We can look forward to having our questions answered on December 22, 2021.
